Compass/temp mirror on '07 Classic

Recommended Posts

Just scored a compass/temp mirror off of eBay. It came from an '02 Silverado. I had purchased an ambient temp sensor in anticipation of needing it for the mirror. My truck already had one on the core support! Go figure.

The eBay mirror went right on and plugged in with no issues once I calibrated the compass. I missed the temp. and auto-dim more than anything else from my '04 Silverado.

So, now I have an ambient temp sensor that I can't use... eBay, here I come :banghead:

I didn't find out until AFTER I bought my 99 Yukon a couple months ago that it has electrochromatic OUTSIDE rearview mirrors. I knew it had hte center rearview, but I've never seen auto-dim SIDE mirrors before. I LOVE them, and if I can find an aftermarket set for my Camry, it's getting a set too.

My wifes Chrysler has the autodim outside mirrors too... It is a great feature!

Hey are you all saying that you have auto dim outside MIRRORS? On my Yukon, I have Auto dim on the drivers side, but the passenger side is normal glass. Can I get a passenger side Auto Dim?

I'm pretty sure the passenger side is electrochromatic also. I could be wrong, but I'll check it out later and let you know. I'm CERTAIN though that the driver side is.

Although now that I think about it. Why would they put electrochromatic on one side and not the other? It doesn't completely make sence. Maybe it's not getting the power it needs.

I wonder if my '07 Silverado Classic is also wired for the temp sensor? Mine is the W/T trim. I just purchased the mirror off of ebay.

Your W/T will likely not be prewired for the temp sensor. The easiest way to check is see if the harness on the back of your mirror has only 4 wires going into it. If there's only 4 wires, it isn't prewired.

Good luck finding the right pins for the mirror harness too, none of the dealers that I've been to have been able to find which size pins go in there (Although the last dealer found some that they think might work, I just haven't had a chance to try them yet), and I haven't found any similar truck in the junk yard to salvage a harness off of.

Crap, I only have 4 wires: Black Red (or Pink, couldn't tell) Green Blue.

Can anyone tell me what each wire does?

Oops, make that Black, Yellow, Green, Blue.

Here's a diagram that someone posted before

So what all will I need to wire up for the temp/compass mirror with auto dimming?

Posted

Pins to plug into your harness, wire to run to your temperature sensor, the temperature sensor (About $20 from the dealer), the mount for the sensor (Also about $20 from the dealer), and whatever the auto dimming mirror needs. I didn't hook up the autodim part of my mirror, since my truck has tinted windows, but I think it just needs a wire run to a something that gets powered when the truck is in reverse, like the wires going to your reverse lights.

Did you ever get your temp working?

FYI, My 2000 GMC Sierra had the Electrochromic rear view mirror but neither side mirror was. On my NBS 07, the rearview and the driver's side mirror are but NOT the pass side mirror. I always wondered on my 2000 why they didn't make the side mirrors auto-dimming because the drivers mirror did blind me sometimes, but never the pass side. Maybe because it is convex? On my new truck, the pass side mirror is not auto-dimming and IMO doesn't need to be, it is not an issue.
