I finally broke down and replaced my 88 k2500 with a leftover 2006 2500HD 4x4 ExCab Long bed in Blue Slate. I can't belive how awesome this engine is! I only tow a 4wheeler trailer, but now I haul lots of a$$!!! I still can't seem to figure out how to post pics  If anyone is on the fence about whether you wany a diesel or not, DO NOT HESITATE!!! Go get you one! BTW I also got $3500 out of my old girl (no, unfortunately not my wife, my 88). It's been a good Christmas so far for me. I can't wait to see my boy's face (5) when he sees the new Yamaha Santa's going to bring him.

Merry Christmas to all!! Especially those who protect us at home and abroad :gmc:

Superbee,

It is going to take a long, long time for that WIDE grin to leave your face. I've had my 2006 Duramax/Allison LT-3 CC/SB for a while and I'm still totally in LUST.

Enjoy your new rig and my heartfelt congratulations.

Thanks, where did you get your fuel door? That's pretty cool.

I really wanted a locking fuel door. Too many eco-freaks and bozos out there who would like nothing more than to frig with diesel trucks. Soooo, I thought that I'd make it a little harder for them.

I searched and searched for a really great locking fuel door. Finally, I ended up buying the ASMI (All Sports Manufacturing Inc) door from StylinConcepts.com. The overall quality is superb.

I'm a retired goldsmith/watchmaker, but surely not a truck mechanic and I was a bit worried about pulling the OEM fuel door and installing the ASMI one. It was easy and I had the new one on (it fit absolutely perfectly) in a fun and leisurely half-hour. Just to keep honest folks honest, I secured the screws with red LokTite.

I put a lot of thought into the finish, but finally settled on the matte black powder-coated finish. The finish has held up superbly, it compliments the look of the truck and I would choose it again in a heartbeat.

Hope this helps.

Congrats on the new Dmax!!!

I seriously doubt the smile will ever come off your face! If it feels like it is starting to go away, just dip into the throttle and it will come right back!

Congrats on the DMAX. I wish I

could say that my next truck was

going to be a DMAX but the way my health

is going, I have my last truck. It's

not bad though, a 2001 GMC 2500HD 8.1/allison.

And it only has 16K miles.

Take my advice, if you are thinking about it, DO IT, because

you never know.

Yes they are a really cool truck. Mine is a 2003 and will be 4 years old in March. I just turned 30K on it, but use it almost exclusively for trailer towing. Don't drive it much unless it has a trailer hooked to it. I know they have made improvements in the trucks since my LB7 engine, but even that motor is a great hauler.

Congrats on the Dmax; it's an awesome engine that can take a beating. My 03 is always being driven to its limits and not a single problem.

    • .30” of rain all month and it’s been weeks since that. “Mowed” our two properties today for the first time since July 2nd. It only took 30 minutes because all I had to do was level some weeds and saplings in a few problem areas. Everything else is dead.
    • Dealer reported a failed shifter module assembly so the whole shifter is getting replaced. Yet another premature repair… up to $12,000+ in extended warranty payout in only 5 years and 80,000 miles!
    • According to the dealer it’s an internal leak/failure of the compressor.  Again, another failure that shouldn’t happen at only 5 years and 80k miles.  For some reason the compressors must be hard to come by right now, because the truck’s been at the dealer almost a week and they just located a compressor at another dealer several states away today.  We’ll see if this fixes the issue.
    • I'm not sure if this should be a reply on this thread or a new topic, let me know if it's out of place. This my first post. Thanks 85077522 - ACDelco GM Genuine Parts Brake Master Cylinders. Anyone else had to replace this brake master cylinder yet. I didn't do any brake work, it looks like new parts and I've had the truck for about 4k miles. When it started to throw codes I did the calibrations with a bidirectional scanner and got the codes to clear but they came back so i did the routine; base bleed, automated bleed and final base bleed. All that with Bosch ES16-32N fluid (please look it up). That seemed to fix it but 100ish miles later it failed again so I ran the same process but with a pressure bleeder this time and got the same results, fixed for 100ish miles. The original fluid looked bad and I thought I got most of it out. The codes; P25A2, C05B0-00, C2A1B. I can get them to clear but not for long. The C05B0 indicates a leak in the front circuit (which is bone dry) so I'm thinking of doing the bleed process on that front again today and I don't know if that's taboo to just do the front but at this point it seems like it's worth the try anyway. The new master cylinder/module unit is supposed to get here today. But now I'm pretty much convinced this install is over my head. I've called several shops and some mobile guys that I know but this thing is like radio active material scary wise. I did get 2 local shops say they should be able to do it, one says he has the SPS2 programing capability. And with the battery disconnected is there supposed to be pedal resistance, mine is to the floor, then if I pump it I can get some resistance.
    • I wasn’t commenting on your post. Certainly wasn’t arguing. I was making an observation on my long term experience with supposedly proper length of driving for proper heat cycles. Works for me. Although I have seen water or vapor come out of exhaust when vehicles weren’t run very long and shut off. It’s very humid in the morning. Then hot and humid.
