Replacing Head Unit in New '07s??

(If this question has already been asked/answered I apologize - I browsed through the first 150 topics and didn't see it!)

Alright, I'm in the market for a new truck in '07. I've just about narrowed it down to the '07 GMC Sierra Crew Cab.

My question is how hard is it going to be to change out the Head Unit?? I've got the Alpine CDA-9875 with Full-Speed iPod Control in my current Tahoe and plan on moving that over to my new truck.

I asked the salesman on a recent Test-Drive and he just couldn't understand why anyone would want to change out the Factory Radio when it's the Top of the Line system... I tried to explain to him about the iPod Control and he told me that the factory system has a "Aux-In" Line... and then I kinda gave up.

I looked on Crutchfield for kits and they basically said that the install would require cutting plastic & fabrication and they don't reccommend changing the factory unit.

Is this an install that a good Stereo Shop could do? What about Best Buy/Circuit City, etc???

And lastly, I don't want a unit that is going to protrude from the dash and kill the clean lines in the dash...

Any Help/Advice/Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....

I have heard that the new Databus adapters are not out and getting a new radio in these trucks is going to be expensive as hell. But i could be completely off.

it really depends on your options. if you have "onstar" with/without the bose system. wire adaptors will run around 150.00. no onstar looking in the 100 area. if you want your steering wheel controls to function, your looking at another 50.00 plus a mounting kit 20.00, and a gm antenna adptor 10-13 dollars. i forgot-i have a 2007 yukon and just replaced the radio with a eclipse avn5500. (onstar/no bose system, steering wheel control adaptor) about 1250.00 for everthing installed by myself. a small amount of cutting was done to get the radio to sit nice and flush.
