I too have a very short wife and have never owned a 4x4 that didn't have a set of nerf bars or running boards. Personally, I have been using Nerf Bars for the last 8 years and they are functional yet look better than running boards. I've always bought the GM brand from the dealer after doing a little negotiation and begging with the parts guy. They usually come down 20% and it makes it cheaper than anything else I can find...installation is a breeze and the wife loves them. She ALWAYS uses them and doesn't have to worry about snow/ice making them slippery.

Gotta love those little gals!

Here is a link to a recent discussion in the ":How To" forum that might help you a little:

You can also do a search and find TONS of information that has already been discussed.

Good luck!!

I had running boards on mid and late 80's Full Size Jimmys. My wife is also short. Since my last Jimmy I started using the nerf bars for 2 reasons. 1) The running boards tend to hold dirt and debris against the body. Both Jimmys had to have the rocker pannels replaced because of rust. Note there was no rust anywhere else on either vehicle. 2) Nerf bars eliminate this problem and IMHO look much better.

I have nerf bars and wish I had running boards as the slush builds up between the bars and the body of the pickup.

I will be honest I have no clue what is a step bar or nerf bar. But from my signature with picture you can see what I do have on my truck. I have had running boards on previous vehicles but have come to enjoy the kind of bars I have now much better.

The one thing my wife was concerned about was her foot slipping threw. After talking with the guy who installed them for us and checking out some on vehicles she was convinced they were fine. She has had no problems with them, also she is 5' and I stand 6'3".

My vote is the bars, but also make sure you include your wife as she needs to be comfortable using them as well.

Have a nice day.

Bill
