Serra1 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I hope this will be an easy question . After installing a small subwoofer amp in a 2005 Sierra , the truck died a few nights later and had to be towed in . The dealership replaced the Alternator , Battery and Generator control module ($702) . The explanation given was the amp was tied in at the Red junction box at/near the valve cover and was the wrong place to tie in at . Supposedly this is a no no and will cause the Control module to fail . Is this true ? It seems this is mearly a safe/convienent place to jump start the battery and no harm could be done by using that as the Amplifier power supply . Am I missing something here as the only other wire coming to that point is the alternator charge lead and it would normally go straight to the Bat + terminal anyway on any vehicle . It just seems GM took the shortest route since they were placing that jumpbox close to the alt . The only reason for that box seems to be a safety issue when jumpststarting since the + terminal of the battery is right next to the fender . I've always seen the amp power etc tied in there as it is easy to get to . Am I being given the run around to not pay a warranty issue ?? They found the Battery had a dead cell also and that would be the most likely cause of the failure no ?? Thanks for the time !
