got a prob in a 2002 2500HD silverado 4x4 with the 6.0

at about 120 km/hr (about 65 mph?) i begin to get a vibration.  this vibration will continue over 120 until i let up on the throttle.  once i have let up the vibration stops, and i can hold speeds over 120 with no vibration. if i drop below 120 and then accelerate once i hit 120 the vibrating begins again.

the dealer had no answer.  any ideas?  thanks!

had a look, but i don't think its tires as the vibrating dissapears if i "blip"the throttle...

steering seems fine...

i've had some people say its the difference between a dual and single drive shaft-the dual gets overloaded...like i know what that means...is this possibly the prob and is it dangerous???

Some people have been able to get GM to replace their 2-piece driveshafts with a one piece.

Personally I would prefer a one-piece drive shaft.  I don't like the extra universal and I definatly don't like having a carrier bearing.  The TSB that refers to changing this driveshaft is "shudder on launch".  I hope I develop this problem so I can get mine changed...

is there an advantage to the dual?  what is the difference, and is it worth getting gm to change? i really don't no much about trucks, so this info is much appreciated! :D

Buddy,

The only advantage I see to a 2-piece driveshaft is that it allows the shaft to be tucked up in the frame rails and could prevent damage if offroading.  It also may allow for a thinner driveshaft because all the force of the drivetrain isn't being sent down one "long" tube.  My truck will never see any major offroading and I tow, so I would prefer a heavier one-piece shaft.  I would also like to get rid of the extra U-joint and most definatly the carrier bearing.

i have a 2003 2500 hd crewcab 4x4 duramax sb. i have a severe vibation at 70mph. the service manager said it was a dangerous vibration, but gm won't do anything about it.

You guys need to go to the dealer adn demand a new drive shaft. The ones that vibrate are out of balance. I promise this is your problem.

Had exactly the same problem.... replaced the driveshaft under warranty.... smooth as glass...

2002 2500HD 4x4 Crew Cab 6.0L / 4.10

Get the dealer to replace the driveshaft.... do not buy new tires...

I'd be raising hell if they said they wouldn't do anything on a 30-40k dollar vehicle. Tell them to buy the d**n thing back if they won't fix it...............God people in sales piss me off. (too bad I'm in sales lol)

i have a severe vibration at 70 mph and have brought it to different dealerships and had 3 different gm employees drive my truck with me and they all said it didn't drive normal. i get a call back later saying it's a normal ride(i wasn't in the truck with them) and they won't do anything about it. i can't try to lemon law it because they won't service it.

I would like to give GM 40K for a new Duramax for my business but have driven 5 and they all have this highway shake. makes me crazy. Not buy a dodge crazy, but crazy no less. Is it starnge to start liking my old truck more now that these dmax have dshaft issues? But my 4:10s on the highway drains the tank!
