Problems with Windshield Wipers

Recommended Posts

On my 1998 Z71 I am having a problem with the windshield wipers responding to what the switch is turned to. If I use the mist option it may run for 20 or so wipes before turning off and then it may not end up in the rest position. Also the intermittent setting results in continued operation rather than intermittent. Has anyone else seen this type of problem? I presume that is either in the turnsignal stalk/switch or in the wiper motor. Could it be somewhere else?

TIA

There was somewhat of a recall due to bad solder joints for years prior to yours. I'd expect that first.

Definately look into the recall. There is a cold solder joint on the circuit board in the control module that typically goes bad. The other problem, though not as common, is the multifunction (turn signal, wipers, cruise) switch going bad. You may not actually qualify for the recall, but a dealer may be able to show you what joints typically go bad if you can resolder them yourself. I always do and have many times.

Where is the control module? In the wiper motor? I don't think it is the multi-function control stalk since it responds to that i.e. when turned on it comes on etc.

Thanks for the help.
