Anyone do HID conversion on 2007 Denali or Yukon?

Just wondering if anyone has converted their headlights on the new 07 Yukon or Denali over to a HID system? The one thing that I really liked about the Escalade was HID's and they weren't an option on the Denali.

The Denali has DRL's as well so if anyone knows how to disable those when I convert to HID's that would be greatly appreciated.

BTW...does the 07 Escalde have DRL's?? I can't remember if it did or didn't when I saw one on the street.

Thanks :P

All GM vehicles have had DRL systems standard for many years.

www.lightsout.org is an interesting site that might help with disabling although it looks like it hasn't been updated in a while.

Do a google search and you will turn up tons of info. Good luck :P

The only issue with DRL should be if the DRL IS the headlight bulb...other than that you should be ok...see visionbulbs.com......I've installed about 12 sets and they are awsome!...Ive been ordering the 4300k bulbs as they are pure white and attract less attention than colored bulbs.

have same issue; the 07 denali has the H13 bulb; dual filament/low/high.

the DRL is under low beam; the question is: is the voltage for DRL same as low beam...? if so, we can put a xenon hid ballast w/o problem... i'd get one of the H13-2 bulb where the low is xenon, maybe 6000K, and the high is a separate halogen bulb...

if the DRL is under lower voltage, the low beam/drl mode may flicker like strobe 'cause the ballast may not be at proper operating voltage...

did any one try measuring the voltage of DRL vs. full low beam?

o/w, i was thinking of covering the ambien light sensor on the dash but the car apparently uses the ambient light amount for other functions... climate control and changing the nav screen to night mode, etc.... i wouldn't mind having the low beam ON all the time but the other fx will NOT work properly so that throws this option out !

if the DRL and low beam voltage is indeed different, we can add a relay to trigger full voltage to the ballast....

even if the voltage is slightly lower, some one needs to try a ballast and see what happens.... mcCulloch or the tens of diff. chinese made xenon systems out there...

we need to find a good solid H13-2 bulb system... not necessarilya bixenon, at least i don't care for one...

let's trade some ideas on this ! i really miss my 9006 HID on the old yukon....

i installed a set in my 07 and they work ok ... only problem is when i turn the truck on sometimes only one light goes on .. sometimes they both go on ... but when i turn on the light or at night they are ok .. i guess it's the voltage that diffrent from the DRL .. so most of the time i just turn the DRL off ....

hey jj how can i install a relay so that i dont have to turn my DRL off everytime i turn my truck on .... and ohh i have been posting this question pretty regularly .... anyone have any idea where or if the make a aftermarket foglight bulb for the 07 denali ?

well, i checked this afternoon, my denali and found that visually, the DRL is definitely a bit dimmer vs. the full low beam....i didn't bother with a voltmeter....visual was enough.

your ballast is NOT getting full voltage... at least the DRL voltage is not too low that it makes the xenon flash on/off, which happens in my winnebago/RV; that has a DRL function...

i'm in the process of figuring out which H13-2 system to get... which one did you get? is it low xenon and high halogen, or a dual xenon or a single H13 xenon, where you loose high beam capacity?

well, relay mechanism is easy to do.... i'll look into which relay would work...we will trip the relay with the DRL or low beam signal/voltage, which in turn will power the ballast directly from the battery... should be simple to setup...could do it with one relay or two/one for each ballast....

i think this is the most ideal way, since trying to turn on the headlight everytime would work too, but i often forget, and my wife would never bother.....

for now, try covering the light sensor on your dash board with a black elect tape or something to that sort...that will make your car think it's night all the time.... the prob. is that the light sensor is used for climate control function in some way as well, i think....

lets keep in touch about this project... a few dollars for the relays and for wires from the battery....

waiting for the icpw.com people to finish their rear LED assembly...

Hi Jim ,

i got the single h13 xenon .. i do lose the high beam, but the kit that i got (6000) is bright enough that i dont need the high beams .. even though i was driving in northen California in the fall and ran into some fog , and the lights were alittle too bright and would glare back ... but other than that they are nice ...

Hi Guys,

What was the outcome of this project? How have the lights held up? Any continuous problems with the headlights coming on or flickering due to the DRLs? I've looked everywhere for answers, but have come up short. :banghead: Any pictures of the final products?

Thanks!

Perhaps I should have gotten the Tahoe... seems a lot easier to upgrade. :(
