hey guys this has money on it a guy i know just bought an 07 classic silverado 2wd 3.23 no locking diff. but has a 5.3 and its a reg cab long box. my truck on the other hand is an 04 with 48k on it its a extended cab reg box 4x4 5.3L with 3.73 locking diff. dual exhaust from right where the muffler was before, a drop in k and n air filter (soon to be full intake) and a bully dog performance hand held tuner. so what do you think well do a race up to no more then 80 just to be safe and itll be from a dead stop. i think the 3.23s will hurt him alot but he has weight to his advantage 2wd and reg cab! :seeya:

You'll win easy, bet more money. You have more power, and way better gears. Plus better shifts. If he somehow takes you, keep going past 80, because you dont have a speed limiter.

well it ended up snowing here tonight. :seeya: BUT i offered to still race in the snow (jokingly) and of course he said No. (the lack of 4 wheel drive on his truck) anyways he has a brand new version of my 5.3L how much power is he putting out factory tuned. Do i still put out more with my chip even if its rated at 295 in 2004

Does he have the 5.3 HO? or the regular 5.3 because I think that the iron block is still doing 295 in the classic.

Here are the specs on the new 5.3 (Iron Block)

Vortec 5.3L iron-block V8 engine features:

From the family of redesigned Gen IV Vortec V8 engines

315 horsepower @ 5200 rpm

338 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4400 rpm

EPA estimated 16 city/22 highway MPG in 2WD models

EPA estimated 16 city/20 highway MPG in 4x4 models

Standard Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission

A cast-iron crankshaft with undercut and rolled fillets

Cast-aluminum cylinder heads that feature a low-friction roller-rocker valvetrain

Electronic Throttle Control provides outstanding throttle response, greater reliability and improved efficiency

A faster, smarter Engine Control Module with more memory that better synchronizes the multitude of engine operations that occur every split second

A thermoplastic composite intake manifold that helps keep the air intake cool. And equal-length runners feature smooth interior passages to promote high-speed airflow to each cylinder

Hydraulic engine mounts for improved vibration isolation

A coil-near-plug ignition system for a precise delivery of high-energy spark

A coolant loss protection feature allows the Silverado to be driven a limited distance at a reduced speed in order to reach a service facility even if a catastrophic reduction in the coolant level has occurred

Extended-life spark plugs and engine coolant

According to the website they have the same HP and torque on both blocks...

How can you tell which is which... I have a 5.3 Flex Fuel but not sure which block..

You can tell if the truck is an ext cab 4x4. That was the only way you could get the HO aluminum block in 05 and 06 I believe.

Well that's good that both the classic and the NBS '07 pickups have the same engine tuning. Except now there really isn't much incentive to pay extra and get the HO block.

dragon slayer that is the wrong engine, the 07 CLASSIC has the iron block with 295hp and 335lb/ft of torque. the only way to get the HO is in an extended cab standard Box. tht is the only truck that it is available in.

and BTW you should take him easy. trust me i have 3.23's and a dyno tune and it is still a slug till you get up in the RPM's but you need to get the jump on him early cause he winds out a lot better with those gears. Those 3.23's fly on the highway or anything above 60mph. plus he doesn't shift out of first till like 53mph and 2nd at around 80mph.

Hell with my tune i don't hit 3rd till 101mph so he will take you at the top but not if you can get the jump on him.

Let us know.

Mine won't even go into 4th on the big end. :smash:

Im afraid to see if mine shifts into 4th, it feels like a 15 foot boat in the ocean after 100mph or so. I've wound 3rd out a bit past 120mph, I think it was around 5300 rpms, give or take 100, then I let off. Next time Im going to see if using ride control helps keep it smooth. The boat feeling + loose steering at those speeds = me wanting to s**t my pants.

Hey i got mine to a little north of 120 the other night and that was some scary s**t. it literally felt like i was gonna take off.
