I would say go with the new built motor

I think if you wanted the Vortec 6000 in a 1500, the cheapest way to go would be to save a lil bit of money and buy an SS.

well the cam swap with converter is like $1300 and a built 408 with Forged internals is around $5000 installed. I think i am going to wait, i am having the trans built to 4l70e specs next month and then i will have a trans that will take anyting i want and ten some plus a 6.4L would be much more badass than a 6.0 :P

Cost me $1500 total to drop the 6.0 in my old truck!!!! I bought a built tranny too but that was after the fact. Plus I had an advantage over the SS. 2wd and a reg cab!!! I would swap again in a heartbeat!!

Youll have a hard time keeping anything related to a 4L60 alive behind a stout 408. Deciding factor on that is tranny builder.

If you don't mind me asking how did you do the 60 swap for 1500, Was it an LQ9

04 LQ4, shaved heads .030, LS6 oil pump, 918 springs. Thats what the motor and few parts originally costed me was right at $1500. Then down the road I added the built vacuum modulated 4L60E and Vig 2800 verter. That all cost me a bit more. Did it all myself and tuned it all myself.

All you need is the complete motor!! That is it and nothing else. It will run on stock 5.3 tuning although it should be tuned for the 6.0. VE will be whacked out big time. Simple swap.

Damnit now i have the swap bug :)

Now to find an LQ9

What i really want is an L92 block to build off of

Youll end up paying alot more than $1250 for an LQ9. Simply because of the fact that the Q9 only sits in an Escalade, SSS or VortecMax. Salvage yards love it when an engine comes out of one of those. It drives the value up.

Boils down to how much you are willing to spend.

My buddies uncle who works at a Chevy dealer (just did my crank relearn Friday) got a 6.0l out of a 2004 1500HD for $250 bucks. The story went something like the insurence deductable was $250, but the guy wanted a new motor, so my friends uncle bought the 6.0 for the $250 and the 04 1500HD guy got a new motor for free (insurence). The 6.0 is stripped, and had 2 bent pushrods. I think Im gonna buy it from him. I dont know if I'd do a whole swap or just use the aluminum heads and Cam. But yeah, $250 is a steal. I could prolly get the heads for cheap! Like $100 cheap. Only thing is my truck is a daily driver and I drive everyday. Prolly have to wait for spring break.

2 bad things: 1. Im not sure if he'll sell it to me. He liked my truck a lot I know that, and he drives a new Mustang, so theres no point in him having a 6l. 2. My Dad who works at a body shop and has access to every tool wouldn't be to thrilled cause ''if it aint broke dont fix it''...Im not fixing it..... :)

Oh yeah, another bad thing:

4L60E is weak and will probobly blow up with anymore mods

Also (last edit I swear :D ) What would those 04 6L heads do to my compression and overall performance? Sorry dont want to hijack the thread.

You could always rebuild the 6L some. What happened to the motor anyway? As long as the rotating assembly is kosher youd be in a good spot at $250 bucks!!!

The 317 6.0 heads on a 5.3 would be a bad idea. Sure they do flow pretty well in stock form but thats not the big point. The chambers are way too big at 71.06cc and will drop the compression. Thus negating the proccess of making more power.

He bent 2 pushrods, and they sent the heads off to get worked too. I remember him saying someone might have put something in his fuel too. But yeah insurence got him a new 6L and the dealer's installing it, so he payed the deductable and kept the old 6.0l. Something along those lines. Im going to look into buying it.
