Service engine light soon came on, cleared it this morning, and hasent come back yet....

I hope someone unerstands this mumbo jumbo......The dealer is un co-operative, they say that the only way for them to tell me what it is, would be to charge me $100.00 to do a diagnostic them self......anybody???? help......!!!!!

Sounds like you may have a problem with the pass side post cat sensor. Those things are heated so they get up to opperating temp faster. I'd take the truck to a good independant shop and have them take a look at it if the dealer is giving you the run around. A good independant should be able to tell ya if the sensor is bad or if there is a short or somthing else goin' on. Hope this helps ya?

An O2 sensor is a piece of cake to change out.

 

I would crawl under there and take a look at the sensors. Unplug and plug back in the passenger side post converter sensor. are the wires damaged at all?

 

I had a bank 1 sensor 1 code once. I must have scraped on a branch or something because one of my wires was rubbed bare.

 

A new sensor for my truck was about $85.

 

 

You can get the sensor out pretty easy if you start the truck when its cold and then remove the sensor just as the exhaust pipe is starting to get nice and warm.

 

 

Also, it always helps to give us a few details about your ride... Year, engine size, any mods, etc.

You could also swap left and right sensors. If the code changes to the other bank, it is definitely the o2 sensor. If the code stays the same, something else.

 

Agree they are easy to replace. Just use some penetrant and work it out like you were tapping threads. Back it out, back in a little, back it out more, a little in. This will help keep the threads from seizing.

so heater circuit malfunction is also part of the O2?

Had the same thing happen on a drive back from Las Vegas to San Jose. Plugged in the laptop with a OBDII scanner, cleared the codes and it hasnt come back. This was over two years ago.
