1/2-ton std cab GVWR rating

Hello,

 

I'm trying to figure out what the real GVWR rating is for the GMT-900 1/2 ton pickup with std cab, 8 ft bed, 4WD, 5.3L, 3.73 gears. Data sources are inconsistent, and the dealer is scratching his head --

 

- Printed brochure indicates 6400-6800 lb (bed not specified)

- GM website (specs) indicates 6400 lb (8 ft)

- GM website (build) indicates 6400-6800 lb (8 ft) (site flakes out during options)

 

For reference, the ext cab with 6.5 ft bed has a 7000 lb GVWR rating. It weighs approx 400 lb more than the std cab with 8 ft bed.

 

For the std cab, by the time I throw two people, fuel, a topper, and 450 lb on the hitch, I'm left with the following capacity for gear in the bed, depending on the answer --

 

Base truck 4800 lb

2 people 400 lb

Fuel 300 lb

Topper 150 lb

Hitch load 450 lb

-----------------------

Subtotal 6100 lb

 

- If GVWR is 6800 lb ---> 700 lb for bed gear (good enough)

- If GVWR is 6400 lb ---> 300 lb for bed gear (pretty thin)

 

If anyone can shed some light on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

On my truck the payload is listed in the glove box on the options sheet in there. If I remember right mine is about 1400 pounds. I would imagine you would be alright since you would only be about 400 lbs over and you dont have to worry about scales either. I have had 3000 pounds in my bed and went from estes park, co to topeka, kansas with it and my truck is a 92 standard cab long bed.

Payload = 1812 lbs

GVWR = 6400 lbs

Front Axle = 3300 lbs

Rear Axle = 2750 lbs

Curb Weight = 4588 lbs

 

4wd Regular cab, Long box

Payload = 1564 lbs

GVWR = 6400 lbs

Front Axle = 3950 lbs

Rear Axle = 3750 lbs

Curb Weight 4836 lbs
