Is it possible for my 6.0 Engine to have to different pressure readings?

 

This is what's happening:

I have a mechinacal gauge hooked up at the sending unit,

I have a mechanical gauge hooked with an adapter that screws in where the oil filter goes.

With the engine at idle I have 5psi at the sending unit

I have 25 psi at the adapter/oil filter .

as rpms increases the pressure readings at the sending unit goes up to 25psi and at the adapter/oil filter it goes up to 50psi.

 

 

How is this possible?

Gauges are good. All the silly stuff has been ruled out.

It is something internal. Any idea's?

Just doesn't seem feasible but that is what's happening.

The dealership says that i have spun a cam bearing. They say I need a new engine.

Is this common on a truck with 55k miles, normal personal driving habits that hasn't been used to pull anything.

Seems abnormal. Do I have a leg to stand on? Is there any course of action that a consumer can take?

 

I am outside my warranty!

Never again, here i Come Dodge or maybe Ford. Can not believe that GM is not going to stand behind their product. But hey they are offering a 100k mile waranty on their 07's. But they won't stand behind this 04 with 55k miles. Outraged!!

GM New with 3yr. 50,000 mile waranty $7670

GM Remanufactured 3yr. 50,000 mile warranty $6800

Jasper Engine with 3yr. 75,000 mile warranty $6020

 

 

Other than price what is the better option?

I was told by a dealer that GM usually will do something for you for 5 years or 60,000 miles, but your dealer will have to be willing to help. I don't know what you use your truck for, but if you do regular maintenance this should not happen with normal operation. Good Luck.

This truck was used for normal daily driving and I hauled some fire wood with a small utility trailer. All routine maintenance has been performed. Hopefully GM and I can come up with a resolution that is acceptable for both parties. I am waiting for a response from GM.

 

Until then i will make an appointment with my Dr. to have my ulcer checked out and have him prescribe something to lower my blood pressure.

 

:) Impossible to do without an engine!!!!

Why would you put a new or rebuilt motor in it if you are considering a Dodge or Ford?...trade it in as it is let someone else worry about it.. or put a motor from a wreckers in it and sell it.

Surely you are not considering a new engine based on two different oil pressure

readings, you must be experiencing other problems also such as lifter tapping or

a rod knocking .

 

If it is just the oil pressure thing, I would just drive it until it quits, wont cost you

any more.

Engine is shot. Cam bearings spun and trashed the block.

I just might put a junker motor in it and trade it in. I was kicking that idea around. I am looking at the bottom dollar value on new versus old versus keep it or tade it in.

How do they know it has a spun cam bearing? Is it making noises? Are you having other issues w/the engine? A faulty or clogged oil filter could give you weird readings also, try changing the oil and use a quality filter (AC,Fram, etc.) Then recheck your readings

Unless you are going to get help from GM I'd check with a local engine builder before paying that kind of cash for a replacement.

hatThey pulled the engine and inspected it to see what was causing the oil pressure issue. They found that I had a spun cam bearing and it trashed the block. 55,000 miles on this motor that has been well maintained and not abused or used to tow heavy loads has a spun cam bearing. WOW GM GREAT PRODUCT!

 

As far as assistance is concerned I have spoke with the GM Customer Service Assistance Center and hopefully I will know more from them tomorrow. I have also looked into other shops to put a Jasper Engine in my Truck, can you believe that everyone that I have spoke with are amazed that I have a cam bearing issue. They seem more curious about a good resolution than I am. Also their Jasper Engine Quote is alot lower. Thus far it feels like I have had more help from other shops than what GM has provided me with.

      While waiting for parts I have been working on installing the AC compressor, new accumulator, and orifice tube. Also changed out the high side ball valve (original). The orifice tube that was in there wasn't too bad. Slightly dirty, a little bit of junk, but not blocked. Glad I changed it out.   The accumulator, which should have been a 5 minute job, may have just burned $50. Put some PAG in it, wrote the date and mileage on the side, fresh o-rings and gooey'd up the threads and rings with Nylog. Got everything connected and snugged and was going to vacuum down the system, and....   My manifold gauge won't fit on the port. It's not an R12 service port. It LOOKS like an R134 service port but the diameter is a hair too large. There's a sticker on the accumulator that says it's designed to be used with R12 and R134a systems only. So it's not R1234yf. Even if I reduced the diameter slightly with a file, the shoulder on the port is too large so the quick-connect valve won't lock on. I'm stumped. It's going back, and 50/50 on if they'll give me a refund.   Also, I did a fuel pressure test.... Key on, the gauge spikes to about 60psi and quickly bleeds off, like 2psi per second. The fuel isn't going into the plenum, no smell, starts fine, so I'm guessing there's a bad check valve in the pump and the fuel is just draining back into the tank. oh, hell. But, it shouldn't be a problem, pump primes just fine and the truck starts right up. It just means I can't really ever use fuel pressure to verify a leak at the injector or intake.

      Got this yesterday out of nowhere. Truck is a 25',6.6 gasser with 8k miles.  Only semi anomaly is that the truck had been sitting, uncranked for 6 days. Elec Stability Control showed immediately upon cranking, not while driving. No drivability issues, just the message. Battery didn't seem to be weak when cranking over.  I drove it, killed it, let it sit a few hrs with no avail.  Truck is 100% stock. No damage.

      This can be done.  It is not cheap and requires an instrument cluster swap with custom programming, new steering wheel with the controls on it, and a special jumper harness.   The cluster upgrade - 12.3” Digital Cluster Upgrade – 2022.5–2026 Silverado / Sierra (T1 Refresh Pickup) - WAMS   The wheel upgrade - Steering Wheel Upgrade Kit – 2022.5–2026 Silverado / Sierra (T1 Refresh Pickup) - WAMS   The column harness upgrade - 2019 - 2026 Silverado / Sierra: Steering Wheel LIN Bus Harness - Harness Dr. - DIY Done Right     The problem with doing all of this?  You pretty much can't have any programming done to your truck that involves the cluster ever again.  The dealer won't be able to program the cluster as GM's system will only pull data for the cluster the truck came with.  So it would be advised also to turn off over the air updates.   TLDR;  Should have bought an LT double cab?  You'd have a power seat, the wheel controls, the cluster, all things that you've been seeking in your various posts so far about your new WT regular cab.
