HD fender flares

I've noticed some people saying that the OEM fender flares hold water and mud.  I was wondering how I can take them off to clean behind them.  

What holds them on?  Is it those plastic pop rivets(I guess that's what they are called) or those and some double sided tape?  How hard is it to reinstall them?

My GM dealer told me several customers bring their trucks in once a year to remove the flairs and clean everything out from behind. I assume their just stuck on w two sided tape. I had considered removing everything, badges, emblems, side moldings and flairs and had asked about rivet holes. He said it wouldn't be any problem removing them (no holes to fill or paint job) but recommended leaving them on which I have done so far (I have had the truck 3 months now). I'd still like to take everything off as I think my black 2500HD cc would look pretty cool w/o.  I guess I am concerned about door dings, rocks, etc.

Pancho:  If you really want to take everything off, you should. I removed all emblems, side moldings, etc. on my black HD and was very happy.
