fuel sender

Has anybody replace their fuel sending unit in their late model pickup? If so where did you get the parts and was it hard to remove the tank. i have done it on a 97 suburban but not on a 2000 gmc pickup.

I could only find the sending unit for my 03 suburban 1500 from the dealer for $162 and it was about a 3 hour job doing it by myself. I have heard that on a truck, it would be quicker to take the bed off than drop the tank.(dont have to drain the tank that way either). Thats the way I would try it.

I have heard mixed issues on that fuel sending unit, since you can buy a new fuel pump with the unit or you can buy the unit and hope you don't have to replace the pump. The guy next door to me replaced the sending unit and his pump fried and burned his bed.

I am having issues on my sierra where the guage is not giving a true reading and I am replacing the pump complete.

Check advanced auto parts or GM direct parts for the whole unit or pump assy. you might save some money and time

Moving the bed back about 2 foot is enough to change it! Look on EBAY, search for "NEW GM FUEL SENDING UNIT" you will see it on the Ebay Store listing I bought mine on Ebay for $35.00 for an AC Delco sending unit card and wiring harness. Took 30 Minutes with the right tools.

Did you remove the bed or drop the tank? Can you give the proceedure for removing the bed if you did it that way>.
