Lift Question

this has a 2001 silverado z71 stepside and supposedly he put 2 inch blocks and another set of 4 inch blocks in the back and torsion keys in the front and it sits up like a 4" suspension lift or bigger and was able 2 fit 315's on it with PLENTY of room but I was wondering like how I would do the same thing or if that lift setup even sounded right?? I have a 99 sierra z71

Stacking blocks is very dangerous and...sorry but it's stupid. The Z71 comes with 2 inch blocks from the factory so I'm sure he just stacked a 4" on the 2". I'd like to see pictures of this because there is no way just cranking the Tbars with ford keys enabled him to put a 35" tire...I bet his CV angles are terrible and he'll be replacing front end parts within a year if not sooner. Trucks with 6 inch lifts can't even fit a 35 without minor to major trimming. If he ever takes that thing off roading he'll be buying new fenders. Save yourself wear and tear and do a body lift or a suspension lift...cranking tbars is not too bad if you don't max them out but no mater how much you crank them you truck will ride much stiffer from cranking.

Ok, Here's the story... I was told about his setup by a guy that drives a FORD so there's the main problem. It is actually a 3" body lift and I think he has torsion keys on the front also. They also are not 35s they are 315's which I think are 34.5's?? Would a 3" body lift kill some more of my mpg if I left 285's on it?

I'm curious about how stacking the blocks is dangerous.

I have heard that axle wrap is way too bad when you put anything larger than 3" under the truck unless you have trac bars. My guess would be that having two separate blocks that generate 6" of rear lift runs a risk of falling apart when off roading but I'm no suspension specialist. Just my $.02

I also agree with Sunoco! Great comments, that's why I'm buying an add-a-leaf kit! :)

well i was told at 4wheelparts that on a 1500, there really isnt enough power in the engine for axle wrap to reall occur, thus traction bars are somewhat superflous and really serve no purpose on a 1500, but now for all those bigger trucks like the F-250's and the Duramax 2500 axle wrap they said is very possible and traction bars are a good thing to have to prevent axle wrap. I mean thats why i wanted the full bore on my truck at first with the traction bars and the dual shock hoops on the front cuz i thought that they looked cool but come to find out they can make the ride stiffer, and are pretty much decorative on a 1500. But just hearing that a 2'' block is on top of a 4'' held on by a U-bolt does sound dangerous, i know on my truck one of the leaf springs is out of line, i guess it happened while off roading because it hasnt moved since and i tightened down the nuts so i dont think its going anywhere, but i wouldn't ghetto rig a suspension lift i would just do it the right way, and get it done professionally, thats just me ....yeah that was pointless rambling sorry
