Transfer case issue...need advice

I have a 2004 K1500 regular cab short bed 4x4 with a little over 20,000 miles. I'm having trouble with a chattering noise coming up from my 4wd shifter. It is the loudest when I let off the gas and coast down the road. The noise also can be heard with light throttle applications. I can lightly push foward on the t-case shift lever up towards the neutral setting, and the noise pretty much goes away. If I lightly push down on the lever towards 4-hi, it gets even louder. The noise has been going on for the past few months or so. I had the truck at the dealer for service and a tire rotation a few days ago, and the service manager drove the truck and heard the noise. He said he suspects the transfer case or the front differential. He advised me to drive it a while longer and bring it in for a recheck. My warranty runs out the end of may, and he told me that if something happens even after the warranty runs out they have me covered and have the proper documentation to prove it. Does anyone here have any advice to offer, or maybe had some similar experiences? It makes me wonder if New Process knows how to build a good 'case anymore. This truck has seen very little 4x4 use, and I will periodically engage it on a gravel road to circulate the fluids. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the shift mechanism in the t-case needs adjusted. How that's done I'm not really sure. But basically what's going in is your transfer case is almost trying to go into 4hi even though the lever is in the 2hi range.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try to stop by the dealer next week and talk to the serv. mgr. about this.
