I was having a whining noise from under the hood somewhere, and now its gone, but the check engine light came on and I'm getting a P1416 code. So is the problem going to the check valve or was the whine possibly the air pump going out, and now it is actually out. And if it is the air pump or the valve, am I going to be able to drive it for a couple of weeks until I fix it, or do i need to take care of it now?

You will be ok to drive it, it is used to lower tailpipe emissions on startup.
