Gear Indication

I've got a 2002 Silverado and I get no indication on the instrument cluster when the truck is in Neutral. All other gear positions work fine. I know for a fact it's not the instrument cluster itself. Where does the instrument cluster receive this information from? Thanks...

Theres a Electronic gear indacater module "black" bolted onto the transmission. Thats what sends the signal to the computer of what gear its in. Its a cheap part and a 15 min job. Im no pro but I had the same thing happnen and it fixed it. gl

Thanks for the info....that must be the park/neutral position (PNP) switch that I thought might be the problem.

My 1999 silverado shows the wrong gear, the old guy that rebuit the trany because of the defective shell was duped by the indicators showing wrong. he put on three of the shift indicators and it did not fix it. if any one sees what is wroong let me know. When you first turn on the key you can see it flash from park to neutral then it stays about two gears off on the indicator, drives ok.

I have a 95 Sierra K2500 that had a similar problem. The gear shift indication would randomly flash and jump around. Problem was that one of the ground wires that attach to the back of the right head had broken and was causing an intermittent ground. I would suggest checking all of your grounds looking for loose or broken connections. Hope this helps.
