Well me and my stupid leadfoot self was heading home from a microsoft convention in austin this morning and i had cruise control set between 90-92 since i was the only soul on the road. so i made it almost home when i come up over a hill and spot a Texas DPS office sitting about 100 feet off the road so i just pulled over even before he had his lights on and long story short i got a ticket for 94mph in a 70mph zone. and the only reason i didn't get my sorry ass thrown in jail for reckless driving is the guy thought i was a "Good Kid" so i guess i get to take defensive driving again. Its my own d**n fault but i had to vent anyway. So i am now starting a fund for a new Valentine1 Radar Detector.

Thats is a bummer, at least you didn't get a reckless driving ticket though. I rarely even cruise 10 over in a 70, too easy to get ticketed.

A little balance and moderation as mom always used to say about everything. Also, with "instant on" and laser becoming more widely used today, don't count on that Valentine to save you. Sorry to hear about your cite though.

I got a ticket under similar circumstances in California about 6 years ago. I was clocked going 106 in a 70. I had been going close to 145 (That's what the CHP plane radioed to the patrol car), but I was able to slow down to 106 before he could lock his radar on to me. The only reason that I didn't get throw in jail was that I had a sheriff deputy in the car with me. That little adventure got me a $600 fine, and who knows how much more on my insurance.

Hopefully your ticket is cheaper, good luck with it.

You barely made the mark...25 over in Texas and no defensive driving! I made that mistake once...or twice...or...anyway, congrats on no jail time!

I just had my second citation dropped this week. Both officers did not show. IMO fight it theres a chance he might not show. Good Luck

Bummer ZZ.

Like 99silveradoz71 said though, not much you can do to evade todays cop toys.

I had my share of tickets when I first started driving (nearly 27 years ago)

I never even got to renew my first licence. 2 years after I got it, it got suspended for a total of 12 years.

No accidents or DUI's just typical teenage driving. :flag:

Luckily, that was before they really started cracking down on driving w/o insurance, bad/expired registration, expired inspection.

My worst suspension was 5 years for habitual offender, after being caught for the 4th or 5th time driving while suspended.

Since then I've only had 1 speeding ticket (69 in a 40 zone, $212 fine, 2 points) and 1 parking ticket (didn't even see a meter, $2 fine)

I still don't think driving should be considered a privilege, I think in todays world, it's a necessity.

Shoulda hammered down and taken the closest off ramp...thats what I did

Yeah but the next off ramp was 11miles from there and he was on me like white on rice. :flag:

Word. Same here. Next off ramp wasn't for a few miles, and he was already on my a$$. Oh well, I didn't let it ruin my day. At least the officer was cool about it. I've gotten pulled over for going 5mph over the limit, and the cop be a total a$$hole about it.

I was going north bound on I-35 about 5 miles south of Temple at about 4 am here awhile back with the cruise set on 82 mph. I wasn't even paying attention just driving and out of nowhere there where lights flashing. SHE ended up not giving me a ticket and to this day have no idea why. But I have gotten many tickets on I-35 between Dallas and San Antonio. That is the only warning I have ever gotten.

Got pulled over last weekend on the return leg of Dallas to Austin(75 in a 60). Austin PD was cool though, gave me a warning. Regardless, you gotta love Texas' deal with the defensive driving. Aside from the cost of the class, you basically get 1 freebie per year. At least I've always been as or more concerned about points on my license and rising insurance cost, than the actual ticket.

Agreed. I try to space my tickets out so I can always take defensive driving with them...the police dont always help me with that though...

Last 2 times I've gotten pulled over, I've gotten warnings. One for 72 in a 70, and one for 88 in a 70. I was really happy about that last one!

Whoever pulled you over for doing TWO miles an hour over the limit should be taken out back and beaten.

    • The filtering to wear relationship goes like this:      'Relative Engine Life "Factor" new divided by the factor old. So 8/3= 2.67. That result is the multiplier thus if a motor had an effective life of 100K using a filter with a 45 micron rating at a Beta ratio of 75 then a filter with a micron rating of 10 at a Beta of 75 would improve expected engine life to 267,000 miles.    Wear metals are an indirect indicator. Less is better and the motor lives longer but there isn't a multiplier like there is for filtration so well documented. Most of that has to do with the sensitivity of the wear metals tests themselves. The read a 'slice' of the spectrum but not the absolute values for the entire spectrum. So a general indicator that is used WITH the results of other tests. Two others considered in this post.    There is also the influence of corrosive wear which may be seen in the wear metals but separate from load based or viscosity mitigated indication. It's a small graph but the gray line is wear vs the TBN/TAN crossover. Not as useful as it used to be as there are now new chemistries for acid remediation that don't show up in standard UAO testing. They will catch up or be found liars. Only two possible outcomes, eh?
    • One thing that comes up over and over is that the torque converters are the weak link. Many of the failed transmissions have the same thing in common. The torque converter grenades and then metal torque converter shards end up destroying the transmission. One of the best things you can do is if your transmission is still fully functional, change out to one of the aftermarket billet torque converters. There are several good choices mentioned in different threads here to make your choice. After that, then you can decide about trans tuning. My trans failed at around 95,000 miles. It got replaced under the GM protection plan. The remanufactured trans comes with a 100,000 mile /3 year warranty. I still have just under 1 year left. So far, so good. As long as it's still working good next year, an aftermarket torque converter is going to get installed early spring. If the trans and OEM torque converter fail by then, I will get it replaced under warranty and immediately have an aftermarket torque converter installed. A warranty replacement trans of a replacement trans will no longer have the warranty so I will bulletproof it from the get go.
    • You got'a be cooking right now. Just looked at the weather map. Yuck!    We are right back to $4 today.
    • Pushing $4.00 a gallon in most places, still $3.75 in town but it's going to spike tomorrow for sure.   Diesel back up to $4.60-5.00.
    • I really appreciate the response.  I guess I was confused about torque angle vs torque angle yield.  The individual bolts don't have a warning on reuse but the part number for the LCA nuts does.   Regarding the purpose of the moog grease fittings on their bolts .. Guessing to reduce possibility of corrosion locking the cams or seizing to the bushing inserts.
