spare tire carrier stuck?

Evenin guys.

 

I rolled my spare tire carrier up w/o the spare in it. I guess I put it in too far as now the cable drops without the carrier on top of it. The carrier unit appears to be locked to the gizmo. I am assuming this is the secondary latch. The owners manual gives some detailed description on how to drop the spare tire if this latch is engaged, however, I don't have a tire on there. Anybody have any ideas or experienced this? The manual says that once this happens that the carrier then needs to be replaced. Is this true?

You should be able to push the carrier up a little and press the middle of the latch to release it. I doubt it needs to be replaced. I have a similar problem because of my aftermarket hitch. The tire goes up a little crooked and doesn't sit right against the frame so the latch is a little difficult to undo when I need the tire out of the way.

As az'03Silverado said you should be able to push up on the carrier a little and push the middle of the latch to lower it,I had to do that today when I was re-installing the spare underneath my truck as I get ready to trade it in for my '07,as I always remove the spare from under the truck and just place them in the bed.
