EGR code won't leave!

'98 k1500 5.7/auto.

 

I keep getting the 404 EGR flow code on my Silverado, I replaced the EGR valve, passages looked clear, and just installed new converters. Cleared all codes with scanner, go for a short drive and still get this code. What gives??

Took the EGR out and propped it where I could see it from inside the truck. Turned on the key, didn't move. Started the engine (runs like crap w/out EGR in) and it still didn't move. Looks like the 2 month old EGR is junk huh???

You need a scanner (Tech2) to toggle the EGR valve. It only works on demand from the PCM when conditions are correct.

Can that be done with the Actron CP9145 "Super auto scanner"?

Almost all OBD2 scanners that are not just readers can do it if they are up to date.

BTW make sure the vacuum & exhaust ports to the EGR valve are clean.
