clicking noise coming from transfer case (i think)

I have a 00 z71 5.3. i'm hearing a noise that sounds like its coming from the transfer case. it doesn't do it in 4hi. any ideas??

I hear just pulling away from a stop. the faster i go the louder it is. don't hear it in reverse though. kinda like a light clunking noise. my u-joints seem tight. no leakage from the transfer. could it be a bearing in that?

ok i have done some reading on here. could my problem be the slip joint? i also read about the blue transfer fluid. manybe change that.

 

Is the slip joint covered by gm? i have a 00.

This can happen! I had something on my driveshaft that would hit on every revolution causing a click... It took the service tech quite awhile to figure out where the noise was coming from!

No, no zip ties on driveshaft. This is driving me nuts.

went to dealer today and checked on the nickle yoke. they want 227.00 for it.

1. How can I make sure that this is what I need?

2. Where you can you buy factory parts cheaper?

I have a manual transmission and that happened to me once. turned out to be a snap ring came loose inside the transfer case.

Well I found the part on gmpartsdirect.com for almost $90 cheaper then the stealer. But I would still like to figure out if I need it or not. What about greaseing the splines? What kind of grease goes on that?
