Transmission upgrades

What are some simple upgrades for transmissions. Does a shift kit or servos help it handle any more power?

You can install a Transgo HDII, that will make your shifts better, and make it eaiser to tow. I installed this kit as well as a vette servo in my tranny during rebuild and I love it.

YUes, like said above, a shift 'kit' and corvette servo swap will firm up the shifts and help the stock trans handle a bit better. I would also recommend a good trans cooler.

HI - I have a 2002 Silverado 1500 4X4 with the same transmission, only 35, 000 miles and so far ok - well I just drive the truck to the dump on weekends, so it's not really used as a truck. Anyway, besides heat which I understand, what is it that fails so often in these transmissions?

 

I saw one post, some ring or a part of 2nd gear fails that can be replaced, ok I understand that. But the number of folks with broader failures is sad. Are there some common small parts that could be replaced that would make a big difference?

 

Previously I also had a 1995 Power Stroke, and if you ever read the dieselstop.com, you will know folks hate the Ford transmissions just as bad when they tow a lot.

 

Anyway, thanks for any ideas, almost wish I had a manual, at least when the clutch goes, you know what has to be done to fix the thing?

The 4l60E fails in stock form because it just isnt a very well made transmission.. Start towing a lot with it or adding horse power and its WAY worse.. There is a company however (Finish Line Transmission) that can build one you wont have to worry about.. unless your making 500+ rwhp, then its time for a 4l80E... I had mine gone through at 80k miles by a friend of mine..my TCI converter let go.. and he upgraded a lot of the stuff to borg werner.. I havent had a problem in 20K miles and I have 0 torque managment .. also pound on it pretty hard every day..

I have to second the FLT trans. I run a level 5 4L65E and am making 514rwhp and it is holding up great. Their service is great too!
