Obs (1994) Rear Speaker Replacement

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I decided to replace my back speakers and I was wondering if anyone had tackled this job. I understand that in a regular cab truck (which I have) this could be a little difficult as with all the brackets and what not. Can anybody be so kind as to tell me what to expect, or give me a few hints and tips?

Also..I was planning on going with two brand new sets of Infinity Reference. They seem like really good speakers and they are only 59.99 a set. Sure I'd like to have the Kappas, but I'm not made of money. I have a Pioneer 740MP (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069882_34922,00.html), and I was wondering if it would be helpful to have an amplifier on top of the head unit. I dunno that much about car audio, but I really have no interest in spending money just to spend it.

Come to think of it, I shoulda posted this in car audio. Maybe a mod will move it?

Thanks a lot fellas

if your not wanting to spend money then those are good speakers. if you havent heard them go to a store and listen to some and find what you like then order them online and save money. get a set of coax speakers and they will do fine off the head unit power. dont get componet speakers because you will need to amp them to get any good sound.

caraudioforum.com is a good site to go and look stuff up and talk to guys there

Thanks alot. I'm not really asking about the speakers though. Anything Infinity is generally gonna be a pretty good way to go.

I'm asking about the procedure to remove the original speakers.

Depends on the trim level of the truck man. I had an '89 that took me about 5.0 minutes flat to change them out because there was no trim covering the area, just a couple of snap-over grills...But I've been in others that required a bit more pulling and prying of plastic to get at them.

Yea, the fronts are easy as can be, but the back ones I'm not entirely sure. I'm gonna pull my seats out and do some cleaning, and I thought I'd do it then. Should be much simpler with no seats in the truck.
