Need Shock Replacement Help! 02 Yukon 4x4 With Autoride

I am no expert in this area but from what I have read and been told, if you plan to keep the AutoRide functional, you have no choice but to go back with OE shocks. It is also my understanding that you are looking at some really big $s.

I have read where people have installed shocks of their choosing for the same vehicle without AutoRide and then had the ECM reprogrammed to turn out the light.

If you do this, I would recommend you look really hard at KYB Mono Max shocks. They are very well engineered and made and offer some quality features that other brands such as Monroe and Gabries simply do not offer.

I have also heard really good things about Bilstien.

Napa offers a replacement shock for front and rear on the autoride trucks. They list online prices from $ 344.00- $479.00 per shock dependent upon RPO code of suspension. I believe they are made by monroe.

Thanks guys!

I'm looking into KYB, I'm waiting for a reply from the manufacture!

Doe's anyone know, If I decide to do away with the autoride system, other than the service light going on, is there any other harm to the vehicle? And is it easy to have the light removed from the computer?

Can anyone help me with this?

Ok! Talked with KYB Tech. He said they do not make a rear autoride replacement however, he said if my vehicle had some kind of leaf spring or coil spring to support the vehicle, than I should be able to use an aftermarket non autoride shock and save a some cash!

My Yukon has two large coil springs in the rear and next them or behind are the large autoride shocks.

This should be a no big deal, right? If so, then I should only need to get the warning light fixed correct?

Kevin, the shock including the AutoRide shock does very little to support the vehicle. Those 2 big coils springs take care of that. So, you are correct in saying you can replace the AutoRides with any good shock designed for the same truck but without Auto Ride. I cannot personally tell you about the process to turn out your light. I have only read some of the Techs on this forum say it can be done.

Have you used the search tool on this forum on this subject. I can remember reading about this on a couple of occasions. Surely someone else has done this and will offer some help.

Sagent, I was unaware that NAPA offered a replacement. There shocks are supplied to them by Monroe.

Well I found out today that the front shocks also have attachments connected to them which are part of the autoride system! I thought I would, at least replace the front with quality shocks however, this is not going to happen!

It looks like I'm "screwed" and stuck buying those very expensive crappy Delphi shocks! This really aggravates me, thanks GM!

If you have any other ideas, feel free to advise!

I had our two rear shocks go bad (torn bags and leaking bad) New was in the $1600.00 range....

I was NOT going to pay that for a truck with 70,000 miles on the clock so I started looking for a used set in a bone yard....... 200.00 later and I have a DARN near new set out of a wrecked Yukon..... Cha Ching!!! :banghead:

One year and 10,000 miles later and now the air pump (compressor) no longer works..... Fuse is good, now what>?

I have 2 front auto-ride shocks that are perfect.

it turned out I had a wiring problem by the shock, (busted connector) so I replaced $900 worth of front shocks for NOTHING !!

$200 shipped to your door.

they are from an 03 yukon denail autoride.

:banghead: Finally did it!.. This was really easy! I disconnected the autoride system by taking out the fuse then disconnected the wires and air connectors attached to the shocks. I drove it for a couple of days and it actually rode better. The only "non" issue is the "service ride control" light stays on in the dash. I plan on having it removed when I get my Wait4me tune!

I spent $300. for Bilstein shocks to replace the front and back. I also replaced my rear springs ($50.) to make up for the stock auto leveling springs which were softer.

Today I paid $200. to have all of the above installed and it is well worth it. I have to say, the ride is way better, better than before.

Arnott Industries in Florida offers replacement front and rear Autoride shocks. $200 for rear air shocks that are bolt in replacements for the originals. They also have compressors for $170 -- much less than GM's replacement part

Why screw it up? Aren't the front shock commections part of the stability control? I have had 5 Yukon/Subs and my 2003 Denali with autoride is by far the best of the bunch, expecially when towing.

Replaced autoride shocks with Rancho suspension. Darn light came on two days later just like my mechanic said. I had him strap the auto ride shocks that were bad on the frame plugged in thinking I could fool the computer into keeping the service light off. No such luck.

Any one have there computer reprogramed successfully to get rid of the service ligt? I called my closest dealer and they said it couldnt be done.

thanks

Remember that the AutoRide system is different on 1500's and 2500's.

QUESTION for our resident GM Tech: What is the expected life of the shocks on the 2500 AutoRide system? Will the ride control computer display a message if the shocks are worn or just broken? I have 82K miles on mine and not ready to shell out $1K for new shocks....
