Another Diesel In My Garage

I flew out to IL Saturday and picked up this TDI Beetle for my wife to drive in the summers. The car is very clean and loaded with leather, moonroof, monsoon sound etc.. it turned 89K miles driving it home. On the ride home it got 48 MPG's and that included 45 minutes of stop and go traffic in Chicago and 75 MPH on the freeway. It has the 1.9L turbo and a 5-speed tranny.

I test drove a diesel Jetta around that time, it drove really nice. It just wasn't big enough for me, and was more than I wanted to pay.

I love my 91 Jetta TD. I average 47mpg and got 53mpg when I really watched how I drove. They are great vehicles. One thing to make sure you follow is to get the timing belt changed when the manual calls for it. If you don't and it breaks it will cost a ton to fix since it is a zero clearance engine, pistons will hit valves. Ask me how I know.

A diesel VW Bug?!? I cant see the pic, post a pic!

Most bugs are gas, but the TDI (turbo deisel) was an option. The motor is very torquey and can be lugged way down if you don't feel like downshifting.

The car has 89K on it and judging by it's condition, I would have to guess that the timing belt was changed (due at 60K). However, since I don't have any service records, I'll change it in the next 5K miles or so...

I can see the pic, so I don't know why it doesn't show up... does anyone have any thoughts on this? Am I the only one who can see the pic?

I can only see the pic once I hit the REPLY button, then scroll down to it.

Otherwise, I get "Sorry, but you do not have permission to use this feature."

I can see the picture just fine, and I'm the one that usually has problems.

Shaners, I was just up your way this past Saturday. We went into Pittsburgh for the day, did the incline, Warhol museum, went down to the Hard Rock Cafe' and it was closed for a private venue. I can say one thing. There is no rhyme or reason to getting around down there. Glad it wasn't very busy.

I used the reply button to see the picture, it doesnt look too feminine for a Bug! I cant beleive they have the option of a turbo diesel! You could probobly make that thing move, have you checked out the aftermarket yet?

It's probably a security setting, since people in the "GM-TC Staff" and "Supporting Vendors" don't seem to have a problem seeing them. There have been several posts with images attached by GM-TC Staff members that I haven't been able to see, I always get the "You don't have permission to view this" error.

There is a reason to it....

That being, if you have a couple hours to waste, and just want to get to the other side of town. LOL

And, there is a rhyme to it....

To the Burg, I took a drive

I seem to be lucky I'm still alive

To find a place to park, it took all day

And I can't believe how much I had to pay

I'm finally on my way outta of this town

Only to find that the bridge is closed, I gotta turn around

Pgh can be a little difficult to get around because it isn't laid out in a square (downtown). There's a few major roads that you need to know in order to get around.
