30gb Ipod With Usa Spec

Recommended Posts

So after many shipping issues, finally got my USA Spec adapter and installed it. Wow it sounds so much better. And very easy to install once you get the radio and wires out (mine where jamb in there)

Anyways, it works great, all the controls work as they should, and it charges. I figured I would test the 1 hour shutoff. Left the iPod connected, shut the truck off, went into work, came out at lunch time a few hours later, iPod fully charged and still on.

I thought it was suppose to shut off?? Any one have this problem?

whats this USA spec adapter for the ipod? im looking into that same 30gb ipod, i want to play it in the truck but i thought the fm transmitter was the only way?

These little units plug right into the back of the factory headunit. Allows you to control the iPod through the stereo and steering wheel controls. It also charges the pod... and is suppose to shut it off when fully charged... supposed to is the keyword here!! LOL

Have to figure out where that command is in my iPod apparently. Still looking. There is a few different types out there. And oh, they sound sooooo much better then the FM trans.

Neucleus adapter

USA Spec adapter from OEM Autosound

There are more, but these are the 2 I suggest for eas of intsallation. Took about 20 minutes to put mine once I figured out how to get the wires freed up in the back of the radio.

Yah, I know... I left it in the truck for close to 3hours of non-use... it was fully charged, but the screen was still on.

Exactly...It states "Auto Charger Feature Charges iPod Battery and Automatically Stops after 1 Hour of Non-Use ". Its not a timer to turn the Ipod off. It s a timer to stop charging it after 1hr of non-use.... Unless the users manual states different. (Im just stating whats on there site info)

Well... e-mailed one of the guys on this site, and he had the answer. He had found the same problem. After about an hour, went out and looked into the truck without unlocking the truck or opening the door, the iPod was off, hit the unlock on my remote and the iPod turned on!! So it is working fine after all.

Those ipods sure can be tricky!! I have no experience with car audio (only 16) so how easy was this to install?

Very easy to install, put one in this past weekend. Toughest part was finding a place for the PA11-GM, and finding a place to "route" the new wire bundle behind the factory deck. Navi / GPS has to be recalibrated after reconnecting battery. Other than that, piece of cake (~ 45 min's for a CLEAN install).

The USA spec one says on there that it will not work with xm tuner. My TB came with xm so does that mean it wont work with mine or does it mean it wont work with aftermarket xm??

Works fine w/ XM. XM1 presets become the first 6 playlists on the iPod, and XM2 is used as the XM tuner presets. Hope that helps, XM works perfectly. The other option is to use the 6 disc changer as the iPod, if you have one.

    • Enjoy the new truck, it’s a beauty. I’m glad you’re keeping the OBS, I love those old trucks.
    • With large equipment or deep mud it is more of a use the higher gear to avoid spinning tires, getting stuck because of spinning tires and doing damage to your machine. The idea is if you run out of torque before you spin tires you can still downshift for more torque. If you are just spinning your tires in the lowest available gear you are stuck and things break.   Automatic transmissions, traction control and electronic transfer cases change the calculation a little as you the driver have less control over each piece.
    • are there any codes? with lots of rust, perhaps disconnect/clean both sides of the connection/examine cable ends (the wires) for corrosion going into the sheath & replace if necessary/reconnect ALL the power AND ground cables between the battery, engine, frame, cab, fuse box and starter charm.li (website) has a no-start diagnostic procedure you can work through to get it working.
    • Its no wonder you've gravitated to the oil types and brands you have in later years after trying certain brands and one being a specialty oil or at least very hard to come by up here and the other would have been a commonly found oil of the era and the vastly different outcomes as a result to using the vehicles in question the same distance for an OCI . It shows what marketing hype can do without actually having the product to back up the claims and that is no different now with the insane claims that are written on the side of a bottle of oil from some of the off the shelf oils.    What has surprised me and I was already finding this out before I bought my truck with the GDI engine, that this newer fancy technology that seemingly would suggest better fuel economy/emissions with this high pressure spray of fuel is not in reality kind at all to the engine or at least the oils life. Yet they insist on claiming long OCI with this technology just like they did with the port or similar type fuel injection systems when in reality its a step back in oil life to have a GDI system.    I think the mistake your making Grumpy is that your not sending your samples to Blackstone and getting the feel good glowing report that you can run it another 1000 or more miles and then send another sample where they say run it yet another 1000 miles and on and on it goes until your sending in something that looks a lot like road tar and then they may suggest you change your oil within the next 1000 miles 😆
    • I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death.
