Daytime Running Lights

Howdy gang. Did a search on the forum about the amber driving lights and found that the part number is 4114LL. I think it is a Sylvania bulb.

I was curious if the amber bulb is hotter or if it would discolor the lens housing at all.

Seen a white Silverdale (mid 2000s) with the amber bulbs and it looked pretty sharp! Gonna go ahead and do it. I have already done the Silverstars for the lowbeams and highbeams, might as well change out the driving lights as well.

Anyways.....

Here it is, almost mid April and we are in another major winter storm. Forecasters have said another snow storm next week too. Great. Wonder if I ever get my boat out on the water!

Later all

I have used the amber drls in three different gm vehicles and never had any problems. I think they are the same wattage bulb, so they should not be any hotter. No discoloring on the lens either. They look awesome compared to the dingy white stock ones.

I would get Amber LED's... the 3157 bulbs will fit the 4114 socket perfectly. And LED's give off no heat and last 10 times longer

They give a nice clean look, my brother has them in hit 07 Classic

3157 Amber LED's on Ebay

You can find a bunch of different kinds on ebay, just type in 3157 amber led (or whatever color you want)

Any pictures of what the LEDs look like when turned on? Dont think i have seen those before.

I installed the LED 3157 bulbs on my 04 GMC last night after reading this thread. I like the look, the leds are like the photo (clear), so it does give the lens a clean look, and they do seem to be a little brighter then the amber bulbs. Is it worth 20 dollars.... probably, if they last a real long time.

DRL's are intended to burn out! It's the law.

I obey the law, another one of mine burnt out yesterday. I keep a few in the truck all the time.

I thought so... Thanks! I took them LEDs off and buried the suckers!

Do they require the load resistors?

No,

All my lights ext. work OK with the amber 3157 LEDs. in the DRL light sockets.

Hey guys. Are we saying that these trucks burn through the 4114 (Yeah, yeah, I know 3157's will work too) DRL bulbs unusually quick? Mine blew two in as many weeks, in the same light...the last one within two days!

I thought maybe it was those zippy looking xenon bulbs I was using...are they hotter burning or something? I've now got led's to put in the DRL's but I want to be sure there's not an issue with the wiring first.

Also, I noticed when I took out the original bulbs that the "chrome" is already fading off the DRL reflectors. The truck is an '03 with 22k miles. Is this normal? Is there a better quality aftermarket light assembly?

Anyone else noticed any problems or issues when using led's in park/turn light applications? If not I'll prolly get them for the rest of the lights as well.

Later......
