I Am Getting A Nbs Just Not Sure Which, Help!

Hey guys help me pick my truck---wife finially said ok when she heard the numbers.

2007 NBS CC

I have 3 choices

1. I can order exaclty what I want and wait six-10 weeks. Problem is they cant gaurantee

the incentives will be the same and I might pay more. And this would be difficult because

I pull a rv starting Memorial day weekend.

2 Found a truck Just like what I would build except has 1 extra option(power driver seat)

Ok I can live with that. Problem is its 160 miles away and will have at least 200 miles on

before I drive it. (This will bother me, I worry somoe beeeet the tar out of it)

This one has 6.0 with 3:73. Like I "built" mine.

3 Found a truck that is close but is not a z71, it does have the Max trailer pkg, so I guess

not much difference other than maybe shocks and a decal?

This one has 6.0 with 4:10

I did not get to drive a 6.0 with 3:73's,will it pull my 7.5K rv? I only tow for 3 months in the summer

and dont go far. Usually only 30 miles or once a year a 200 mile trip each way. Or should I grab the one with the

4:10's it is 400.00 cheaper which would help offset the MPG difference there will be.

One last question, I usually tow my trailer in 3rd, if I do that with the 4:10 on the Interstae it will

be spinning about 3200 rpms. Seems like allot, maybe 3:73 would be better or use OD???????

Sorry so long!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd not order given the incentives may not be around. As far as 160 miles away, assuming you are working with a local dealership, why not ask if you can go along and pretend you are not the interested buyer, just another employee. Or, does the local dealer have car trailer? Dealer I buy from has a trailer, and if a vehicle is more than 40 miles away, they pick it up and trailer it back.

As far as the towing issues go, I'm not qualified to address those issues. However, I would opt for the 3.73 for better fuel economy. The tow/haul mode would help as well. But you should be able to check the Chevy or GMC Web site and sort of figure out which would be the better bet for your situation. I'm pretty sure most of that information will be available. Does the dealership offer any information in that area? They should have a brochure on trailering that may give you some sort of idea.

Unfortunately they do not have a trailer, I didnt ask if I could go--thats a good idea.

The service manager who I trust and have known a long time recommend the 4:10

he said its just easier on everything and he didnt think the fuel differnce would be that much.

Especially since the one with 4:10's is 400.00 cheaper. That would make up the difference for

a while.

You would be happier with the 4:10's. Your mileage would be better with them while towing, and not too much worse otherwise. For towing it will be better, and you could leave it in OD.

The MAX tow pkg has the same springs and shocks as well as the locking diff - the only things missing from the Z71 pkg are the skid plates and traction tires. The MAX tow package comes with the 4.10 rear end for a reason - that 6L is just hitting its stride at 3000 RPM. The 4sp that they put in it does not have much in the way of a low gear, so to get your load moving so the 4.10 will help in that department. Even though you don't seem to tow very far or often, you will probably like the results with the 4.10.

You must be looking at an LT1 pkg - are you getting the LT2 convience pkg along with it?

Power seats are great. I have the LT2 pkg in my 2500HD and love the bucket seats and the console.

I presume that your dealer is doing a dealer trade for that truck so they sent a driver up with the trade car and drive your car back. I suppose you could ask to ride along - but for insurance reasons you could not drive the truck back. Dealers usually sent a senior sales person or someone from the fleet department to trade cars. My wifes last two cars were found at least 100 miles from the dealer we bought them at. We have had no problems with either one of them - we sold her 1991 Baretta to buy a 2005 Cavalier - that Beretta was sweet and only had 70,000 miles on it.

As for my truck I ordered it on Jan 9, shortly after the HDs order queue opened - I knew just what I wanted - took delivery on Mar 1 - and love it.

The current incentives run through July 9th. If you order the truck now, you should get it well before then. The last day to order for a 2007 model is 25 or 26 APR, so you need to decide soon. If you miss that date, you will have to wait until June to order a 2008 model and you won't be able to take delivery before August.

The 1000.00 trade in Bonus Cash end May 27th or somthing here, the truck would not be here by then.

It might be different where you live?

Definitely go with the one with the MAX trailering package. You get a lot of upgrades including 1) locking differential, 2) 4L70 transmission instead of the 4L60, 3) Heavier duty rear end, 4) Rear disc brakes.

I ordered mine with the MAX package even though I don't tow, simply for some of the above.

Saw the same thing when I ordered mine. Dealer gave me his best price and I would take whatever was offered in incentives when it was delivered. The one question I would ask: When was the last time you saw a vehicle go up in price as the model year comes to an end? Usually they all start discounting heavily by May or June, either by discounts or rebates/incentives. You can count on something replacing the trade-in bonus after May.

On your other questions:

Personally would not buy a 4.10 diff for the limited amount of towing you mentioned (unless you own stock in an oil company). It's a $30K purchase with no shortage of supply. Take your time and buy the right options for your needs. Would not be too concerned about a transfer from another dealer if it gets you the right truck, especially if you must have it before Memorial Day.

You should also pay close attention to the options on an LT1. If you want a DIC, you need the premium package (remote start, fog lights, steering wheel radio controls, etc...). If you don't order this package, the DIC controller is a $100 add-on from the parts dept.

throwing in my .02 (i used to sell Chevys). Don't worry about the truck having 200 miles on it when you get it. Typically the dealers use folks that are retired and just want to get out and about. Also, they USUALLY don't let customers go with them. Causes some chaos and confusion. TYPICALLY.

If the truck you want has EXACTLY what you want but with the added power seat? Then I would go with that one. You don't need a Z71. As someone said above its more marketing then anything. Heck I have a Z71 now (bought it used) and a standard 4x4 would have been just fine for me.

I would use the tow/haul mode when pulling your trailer? Why? Its there for a reason. The Max Towing package will work PERFECTLY for you.

You have some good choices, is your dealer small? I ask that because the sales reps are there MUCH longer (the one I worked for had 3 guys that had over 30years and 1 of them over 50!!) they knew EVERYTHING about towing etc.... thats why I asked.

anyway...personally i love the new GM trucks. I have driven the 4.8,5.3 and the mighty Duramax. Simply fantastic....in EVERYWAY.

Good luck. My vote is for the one 160 miles away. Take care. Let us know what you decided!

Max with 4.10s, no question. 4.10s in the wife's burban and I love it. I live in the hills of Western PA and driving around here is like having a little trailer on all of the time compared to say Kansas, very hilly. I get better mpg with 4.10s around town than a similar 3.73. You'll love it while towing, or you could just get the Dmax and pull anything anywhere

Unless you're a patient person, I say go with the one available now. I ordered mine almost 5 weeks ago, and it's been killing me waiting for it mainly since I have a camping trip planned for May 19 and need this truck to pull my ~7500# travel trailer. I'm hoping it comes in before this month's incentives expire since they seem fairly good.

Speaking of that, I'd definitely go with MAX Trailering Package if you're towing that RV. This gets you to 10,500# maximum, so you'll be well within capability with 7,500# trailer. I think the rating is 8500# with 6.0L/3.73, so that's getting close to max rated once you figure in cargo, people, etc.

Good luck with your decision!

Just a question to ask about somethings that have been mentioned in this thread.

I have an 2001 Z71 Silverado with the 5.3, how do I know what rear end I have?

Also on the NBS Silverado's, is it possible to get the Max Towing package with the Z71 package? I was told that it wasn't possible.

Yes you can get the z71 package with the Max trailer pkg.

Check you glove box the codes for the rear end will be in there.

someone here will know the codes off the top of there head!

Id vote for the 373, especialy if you do a lot of hwy driving unloaded.

If the only difference is the gear ratio, your supsension will be the same so your truck will handle the load easily, they just recommend lower weights to save the tranny, it should easily handle the #7500

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
