I don't have first hand knowledge with the site mentioned but that is the correct dealer markup % (I used to work for a company that also owned all the dealerships in town, employees got stuff for half off...)

You have to be careful w/ gmparts direct. Usually you have to buy 2-4 of that item. Thats how you are basically getting them at cost to the dealer.

The thing that gets me w/ dealer prices is the labor charges... ridiculous. I try and do most everything myself.

Make sure you include their shipping/handling charges in the above price comparison. Our local dealership pricing is higher than GMPartsDirect but almost a wash when you include s/h and hassle if you need to return the wrong part.

They are genuine GM parts. You just have to watch out for shipping costs. Depending on what it is it may acutally end up being more expensive.

I've bought a couple things from them, also acdelco.com and rockauto.com. just depends on who's cheapest for a particular item.

Another thought, was that it doesn't hurt to check more than one dealership for pricing. Here locally, they do not all use the same markup.

I have used GMPartsDirect one time, no complaints other than the shipping/handling charges.

All parts mark-up is huge. I have never been to any dealership parts dept that did not give me a 25% discount simply by my asking and telling them I am from xyz company. even those that do not know me. Including import dealerships. Really.

hey Bryani just happend to find the part numbers off a guy who listed them on ebay, im looking to get rid of my power extending mirrors and get a pair of the 06 ones that i call the "ford" mirrors because there taller than they are wide. Thats the only thing about GMpartsdirect.com is you have to have the part number to find what your looking for,

I do agree shipping is kinda high on there but im still saving about 100 dollars compared to dealer cost and thats with my GM discount. Also its about the same price there going for on ebay used. I think i'll give them a try

All of the dealers around here charge full MSRP for all parts, even if asking nicely for a discount. Even with charging full MSRP, their prices usually wind up pretty comparable to gmpartsdirect once shipping is included (At least for the items that I've bought), and I don't have to wait for the part.

GmPartsDirect.com is actually Flow Chevrolet, IIRC. I have bought stuff from them several times without any problem. On some items the shipping/handling charges can get kinda high, but they have actually dropped some their shipping costs recently due to other competition. You can also try Fred Beans GM Parts. It can be kind of hard tracking down the exact part you need at times, but they are usually even cheaper than GMPartsDirect. When you first go there it says that it's a Pontiac site, just ignore that and select one of the catalogs and you can pick any GM make that you need.

WRONG!!! I've purchased most all of my genuine GM parts from gmpartsdirect and you don't have to buy in quantity. If you need a part number call the local dealer and they'll give it to you or you can also email gmpartsdirect w/ your VIN and they will get back to you with the correct part number for your vehicle. The shipping cost are slightly high but they are still much cheaper than buying it locally...especially since I also pay no TAX buying from them.

hey thanks i didnt know about that site, they didnt have the mirrors im looking for but still looked like a good site. It looks like gmpartsdirect.com is the way to go, even cheaper than some used ones on ebay, allthough people tend to overbid just to say they got it :tear:

i wonder if gmparts direct gives a discount for GM employees????? worth a shot!

so you gonna call a dealer ask them to look up a part for you then you dont buy it but you ask for the part number, i know this sounds fine to most people , but parts guys at dealers get pay at why they sell, i don t blame any one for wanting to buy cheaper parts but i have heard of customers getting really out of wack because a parts person didnt want to give the a part number#, if you get a number depending how nasty you get with them you might be getting a wrong part number just for their trouble.

not flaming you for the post just my thoughts on it , i know a buddy the works in the parts dept on a dealer and he said it happens daily

For a 25% discount....you d**n right! If the local dealerships weren't trying to bang you they might sell more parts. I've never had a problem with contacting my local dealer for a part number.
