Which Hard Tonneau Covers are available for the new 2007 Sierra/Silverado?

The ones I found out about were "Undercover" available now in short & standard beds and long bed available near the end of June. A.R.E. should be available to order after 04/20/07 and was told to expect 6 week wait. Penda sent me a response stating that a long bed model will not be available "IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE". These are the only responses so far to my emails. :tear:

My local ARE dealer said I could order a cover now with delivery in 3-4 weeks. I don't like the looks of the ARE cover, so it's moot. Don't believe the dealer knew the difference between Classic and NBS.

LoRider by Raider is supposedly available, but local distributor told me yesterday he's had several on order for over two months with no ship date indicated yet from Raider.

Ranch Fiberglass has one in work, but they told me yesterday it's about two months out yet.

Talked to a SnugLid distributor this morning. He said they have installed SnugLids on the new Chevy Silverados. If I ordered today, it would be 3 weeks.

Undercover, if you like that look, those are available.

What style are you looking for?

Take a look at some of the folding hard covers if you want a something is less cumbersome than fiberglass. Tarza-top has a tri-fold style that looks like a traditional soft cover. I bought a Bakflip which fits flush between the bed-rails. Both products can be folded and removed by one person in a matter of minutes.

The new Fold-A-Cover LS2 series is available now for the NBS trucks. I just ordered the original LS series recently and love it. The new LS series covers have many improvements over the older design. Its worth a look b4 you decide upon a cover. I think it is one of the best looking covers available.

Nothing for the 2007 NBS Sierra though.

I like the looks of the painted to match fiberglass ones.

THe hard covers are nice as long as you don't use your truck as a truck and only as a large gas guzzling car. The folding cover is nice as it still allows you to use your truck bed to carry large objects. But, there are a lot of people who don't use their trucks to haul cargo so there is a cover solution to fit everyone.

Why is that? I can remove my undercover in about 2 minutes when I need to. I can also still tow whatever you can (which is what I primarily use it for anyways) and all of my stuff is securely locked under the cover.

Leer 800 series 2007 GMC Sierra GMT900

Good finds. I got some pricing over the phone on those three. The ARE was around $985. I had an ARE on my '99 Sierra. I was not happy with the quality of some of the components. The support mechanism had to be replaced after a couple of years. The pivot pins snapped off on one side. It also chaffed the paint on the edge of the bed. So I pretty much have nixed ARE as an option.

The SnugLid is nice. But I'd have to drive about 250 miles, and they want $1300 plus $50 for installation, or they'd ship it to me for $150. I'm not too keen on being that far from warranty issues.

Leer's 800 is due out later this month. Their 700 series is available now. The 800 has quick-release hinges, which Leer had issues with before. I don't know if they've resolved the problem or not. The 700 series has carpet on the underside, as does the 800. The 700 is $925 installed and the 800 is $1050. The Leer dealer told me he did not think the 800 was worth the additional $125.

Hmm interesting. Lots of different options out there. The undercovers are a lot cheaper, wonder if there as good of quality as the leers. I kinda like the idea of the 50lb lid rather then the 150 200lb leer one though.

I saw an Undercover demo mini-cover at a local camper dealer. Was very well made and the hardware/locks looked durable. It's an entirely different type of product as it's injection molded plastic (not fiberglass). Would have been my first choice but they don't make them for 8 foot beds so just not a option for me. I also like to open the tailgate with the top closed which won't work with their top.

Well, I ordered a Leer 700 Tonneau for my '07 Sierra this morning. I was almost going to go with the Undercover, but did not care for the texture surface and the locks sitting on top.

I discounted ARE early on, because I've had ARE tonneaus before, and did not like the trim piece along the edge all around. The lift system also failed on me and had to be replaced.

Leer has a system that uses the VIN number from the truck, that then utilizes the factory paint lot information from the day the truck was painted at the factory, to better match the color. The main features I like about the Leer are the carpet liner, the lock is at the back of the tonneau, rather than on top, the hinge system is not a piano-style hinge (those end up squeaking after time), and the lift system seems well-designed.

The dealer took a downpayment, and said to expect the tonneau in about 3 weeks. Total price out the door will be $925 + $57 tax. Includes installation and replacement tailgate cap.
