Nav Question

I have a OEM Nav system in my 2006 Denali. Does this system display MPH of the vehicle similar to portable GPS systems? I have scanned through the instruction book but did not see answer.

I believe you need to have a VSS Cable connected but I will let someone else confirm.

Well it's been a couple months and no answer to my question. I sure thought that someone would know for sure.

I don't think the VSS cable is needed, it should use the GPS to get the MPH of the vehicle

I have not found a screen in the nav that displays your current speed via GPS. Would be nice, though...

Nope, don't think so. I've been using mine for quite awhile now and pretty sure I've gone through every menu possible. I guess they figure you can use the speedo right in front of ya.

Was hesitant to speak for the latest version since I have the older version TNR ('04). No spped indicator on the GPS on that one. The VSS is probably already connected if you boutht he vehicle with the NAV in it. Only used for two things that I'm aware of: 1)smooth out your movement on the screen (especially when in tunnels, etc) and 2)keep you from making changes while moving.

 

BTW if it is connected I've heard that some have cut a switch in line with it so they could operate the NAV while driving (but not me,,,, no way)

I've really considered that and may have to look into again after the 3 year warranty is up. While I certainly have no plans on entering an address while driving - the passenger certainly can.
