New Dvd/nav System

I decided since I spend so much time in this truck... I wanted to get something nice to put into it. Sooo I splurged and bought the Pioneer AVIC-Z1. It is a DVD/Navigation system with a built-in 30 gig harddrive. 20 gigs are dedicated to the Navigation and all of it's features, and the other 10 gigs are dedicated to Music. You can put a CD in and rip music straight onto the Harddrive

Another awesome thing about this system is you can hook it up to XM's NAVTraffic. You slect your destination and it maps out the route, and the NAVTraffic alerts you about any accidents, congestion, or roadwork along your route. And if it comes along any of those it asks you "Would you like to re-route"

I HIGHLY reccomend this system, pretty expensive, but worth it in my opinion

Here are a few pics

Nice screen. now im just woundering how many wires did that thing have and also did you ground it so you can have video all the time even when in drive? I been curious about the back of those units they look massive.

Unfortunately with this system.... it is not as simple as grounding. It has a gyro built into it, and when it senses movement is shuts off certain features. I have a couple professional install guys looking into it, seeing if there are any ways around it, but nothing that works thus far

I have an 07 classic as well and the circuit city guy said the double din in-dash style would not fit due to no correct face plate or something like that. Only the flip out style that I don't care for would fit. Is that not true?

The classic is a Double Din so it will fit, you might have to do some slight modifactions to the radio bucket, but it is nothing that serious to make it fit, I fit one in a 2001 Silverado with the Din and1/2 opeaning and I had to use a dash bezel from a 2005 cause it has a bigger opeaning and I didn't have to cut anything showing.

As far a the bypass for the AVIC-Z1 check out www.avic411.com/forums and you can find the bypass, and it is easy to do, unless you have a AVIC-Z2 cause they still haven't figured it out for that one.

I just put the AVIC-Z2 in my 2001 Sierra C3. I had to use a grinding wheel to file away some of the plastic in the top part of the box space in order for the unit to go all the way in and have room for the wires. I had to make my own adapter to lock the unit into place. I ordered the standard mouning bracket from Pioneer, but had to modify it a bit. The other problem was that the dash bezel was too small, and I used a dremel tool to cut away just enough for it to go back on. I am glad to see that someone else found an alternative with a larger opening... I just hope I can find one with the same wood grain design to match the rest of the inside of my truck.

I still have not found the reverse wire and speed sensor wires to complete the installation. Anyone have any specific info?

If you want to watch DVD while driving, you have to do 3 things. Put toggle switches on the speed sensor wire, parking brake wire, and the navigation antenna center wire. Be sure the Parking brake wire is connected to ground on the other side of the toggle switch, instead of the parking brake.
