Aftermarket Deck And Airbags

I know its been asked a hundred times....I did a search and came up with mixed comments....but does anyone have proof that the airbags wont go off or go off at random.

I want the harness that gives door chimes and stuff, is this the same one, or do I have to buy a $250 (CAN) one to simulate something with the airbags. I know my buddy's blazer doesn't need one, its an 03 too with the exact same deck.

I don't have proof, but there's absolutely no way the airbags would be routed through a radio that often gets replaced. GM has disabled the ability to turn off the auto-lock feature on doors, do you really think they have the legal fortitude to channel an airbag control through a radio? It's a myth that's propagated by unscrupulous salesmen and installers.

The airbags have no relation at all to the radio. The reason the door chime does is because they're using the system speakers rather than spend the money for another dedicated door chime speaker. That makes sense. The air bag/radio connection makes absolutely no sense, and would have opened them up to lawsuits galore leading up to a recall.

I can't prove to you that astronaughts landed on the moon either, but you'll have to trust me on this one. ;)

yeah my thoughts exactly....thats why I asked.

I could just see so many problems with it if it were true..I know my 04 cavalier was suppose to have this...But I had an aftermarket deck in there for 4 years w/o problems. And the $10 walmart jobby harness to boot.

Thanks man. Just needed someone else to come out and say what I was thinking.

No problem, glad to help. The first time I heard that one, I felt that twinge of panic because I had just replaced a deck. Then reality set in, but they still got me for a moment.

yeah...worst thing was they were selling a nice alpine deck for 179(60% off sale) and than told me I had to buy an adapter for 249 to go with it...I was like F that. I'll stay stock first.

But knowing that others have done it w/o problems...kinda puts the old mind at ease.

Random deploying a/b's would suck a lot.

There is no chance of the airbags malfunctioning if you don't use that adapter. No worries.
