Another Radio Question.

I have a 2005 Sierra and am wanting to put a new head unit in it.

I have looked around and I want a a navigation system as well as satellite radio. The best option, as it would seem, is getting a used OEM unit. My truck doesn't have the Y91 or Y92 (Bose stereo) option on it. But yet, i want the XM radio, which the NON-LUX radios don't come with (correct me if I'm wrong). Will the radios made for the Y91 or Y92 option work on my truck? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

There are 3 different radio systems that GM puts in trucks. The first is the base unit or non-Bose. The next is the upgraded Bose Premium system (will have Bose on the door speaker grills) and last is the Bose LUX version (Y91 -Y92) The Bose LUX version is only available in the Denali, Escalade, and some Hummers.

The difference in the radios, base model did not have an external Amp ( all done within the radio). The Bose Premium has an external "Dumb" Amp and the Bose LUX had an external programmable amp.

The Navigation radio can be added to any one of these setups. The only thing you will need a Navigation radio with the correct programing to be compatible with you current radio setup. The other option is to upgrade by adding an Amp, if you have the Base radio. This involves some rewiring as you might expect.

As far as the XM module it is separate from the radio. It is a module that is on the passenger side behind the glove box. You can purchase a kit from GM to add the XM. One word of caution do not try to buy a used xm module because when you install it in your truck it will activate the Theftlock in the XM module and can't be cleared by the dealer.

In my Yukon SLT I have the Bose stereo with XM built-in and the 6 disc CD-changer. Am i reading correctly that I could change that head unit to one of the navigation ones? If so, what I've wondered is what features would I lose, if any, by doing that? Do the Navi heads have the 6-disc cd-changer in them? Do I lose any functionality at all by doing this switch or do i only gain the navi in addition to what i already have?

Thanks

You will lose the built in 6 disc changer, but you can add the OEM style changer that they put in Denalis in the lower center console or you can add an external magazine style elsewhere in the vehicle

I have an 04 Tahoe that had the basic radio. I wish I'd had the info in this post before I bought the Delphi TNR 800 and installed it. What do I need to do the add in the amplifier, mines pretty weak. Also, I'd like the XM radio. Is the factory XM only available through the dealer?

Thanks in advance.
