My truck got a light hit from my roomate's truck yesterday. The kid tried driving around the front of my truck instead of asking my other roomate to move her car. His rear right wheel ended up rubbing up against the left corner of my front bumper.

Ended up scratching the heck out of my chrome and scuffing up the lower and upper plastics on my front bumper.

He is unreasonable, so I called the police. They said it was obvious that he had hit my truck. Now we are settling this dispute.

I am to go get an estimate, and my roomate will pay for the damages. He thinks it will only cost about 25 bucks!

The Chrome is SCRATCHED ( can not buff chrome ).

He's paying (or should I say his parents are paying) for the repairs...I really would like a Silverado SS front bumper cover which is actually cheaper than a chrome bumper.

What would you all do?

It sucks when you know the guy/gal that hit you, I think we've all been there. If it's bad or they can't afford it, that's what insurance is for. If they're being unreasonable and aren't that good a friend to begin with, that's what police reports are for.

...but if a really good friend of mine did the same thing to my bumper (cosmetic damage only), I would tell them not to worry about it... that I was going to put a bumper cover on it anyway and the damage wouldn't be visible. Again, that's in a case where I want to preserve a friendship.

He surely is not a good friend of mine.

I have done some research though on the SS bumper cover. It is actually cheaper than the chrome OEM bumper. In some cases they make kits for the cover to bolt directly over the original bumper (minus the lower valence).

Get two estimates, one for each one.

Give him (or his parents) the choice of which one to pay for,

or offer to accept the one you prefer.

A bumper cover may be cheaper, but keep in mind you are simply covering up the problem. The bumper will still be damaged underneath the cover. Make sure sure your "friend's" parents understand that you are doing them a favor... the problem will still be there, but you're willing to live with it if it's out of sight.

Those covers look cheesy. They aren't authentic SS covers and they are held over the existing chrome bumper with four screws and 3M adhesive tape.

I am going to have the truck looked at by my insurance adjuster tomorrow.

Got the new bumper cover last week. Keystone.

Got it painted and installed.

Saved 9 bucks from the insurance check. I sell cars at a dealership so I got a discount on the bumper ($322.01) and the paint was $200.

Bought construction grade adhesive and stainless steel screws.
