Drl Problems And Other Lights

I have an 01 Sierra, and the DRL's are giving me headache lately. I love the look of them when they both work....."both" being the key word. After I put new bulbs in, they work fine for about a day or so. Then one of them will quit working. I hate they way it looks when it's only one of them. I go to look at the bulbs, and they are fine. If I take them out, and put them back in, sometimes they will work for a while. Why is this? The socket that they go into is turning a little black around where they meet the housing from heat I'm assuming. Why are these 2-stage bulbs? There isn't a high/low feature for these is there? I've never noticed, but are they supposed to work with the turn signals too?

While we are on the subject of lights, what kind of bulbs do I need for my dash lights? My AC, defrost, and dimmer buttons are all dark at night now because the bulbs have burned out.

Also, my foglights don't work. I've had the truck a year now, and have never figured out why they don't work. The bulbs are ok, and the switch seems to be ok. Is there a fuse somewhere I need to look for? Should the foglight switch have an indicator light like the "auxillary lights" switch does?

Thanks for any help or suggestions

James
