Anti-theft/security Light Glowing Dimly....03 1500hd

I have a 2003 1500HD LT. I noticed a few weeks ago that the light on the instrument cluster that is a pad lock with a truck peeking from behind it (the anti-theft/security light) is glowing faintly. At first I thought it was only at night, but then I realized it was only when it was dark that I could see it. It pulses brighter ever so slightly along with the pulse of the lock/un-lock of the keyless remote.

Now, I checked my truck-bible (owner's manual) and it mentions what to do if this light comes ON and stays on....take it to the dealer. My truck has only 22k on it but is out of warranty due to age. Is this realy a dealer-only problem? Can a driveway tech check/test this? ....Is it expensive?

Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

You need a scan tool to check the BCM for codes, but if it is lit dimly it sounds more like a wiring backfeed problem. Check for blown fuses, otherwise it may be a short either in the truck or cluster.

Don't know if this helps or not, but had a similar issue with my '03 Sierra 2500 HD back a year or two except my issue was the brake light was lit.

I was taking the dog for a midnight wee wee break and happened to look into the truck when I saw it. I took it to the dealer and they checked the brake system and checked for codes, nothing. They thought it was the cluster as well.

I took the truck back home and was preparing to make another appointment to get it replaced when it went out all by itself and hasn't returned.

Weird.

Good Luck

Tony
