Where Is The Oil Filter Located On '01 Yukon 5.3l

Time for the first oil change since I've owned the truck and I can't find the oil filter. My father-in-law was the previous owner and always took it into the dealer to have it done.

thanks, found it. My view was blocked by the 4wd hardware and the skid plate that covers the underside of the motor and half of the oil filter...lol

Now how do I reset the "Change Engine Oil" light on the dash when the motor's started? I thought it was an automatic sensor type thing and would detect the new oil and quit coming on

Does your truck have a manual? It explains this in detail. Basically, you put the key in the run position without starting the engine. Then press the gas pedal completely like 3 or 5 times within 5-10 seconds, then the oil light should flash a few times if it reset, if no flash, try again.

yup, has a manual. I just wanted to be like a lot of other people and be lazy and ask on here hoping someone would have the answer quickly without having to dig it out and flip through it

Oil filter is in the same place since 1956. Just look.

sorry, I'm new to a GM/Chevy motors thing. This is the first I've had in 20 years of owning vehicles. You might have noticed a bit after I started this thread that I replied that I found it. I originally took a quick look from under the front, but the skid plates were hiding it (it stops under the filter). I figured it might have a remote filter behind a headlight or something like some of the other models (blazer for example). Once I got the truck high enough for me to roll all the way under it I clearly saw it at the rear of the engine.

I'm not ignorant when it comes to cars....the mustang in my sig I built and did all the work myself, including 2 complete engine/tranny swaps that involved fabrication because of using a non-stock tranny. I'm just not familiar to GM
