Have a 04 burb. I heard on this forum that you cant change to synth oil in frt differential without having the right vent tube for synth oil. is this true

and if so, what color vent do I need, black or white

It doesnt make any difference. I changed my 02 to synthetic and didnt bother changing the vent tube. 4 years and 80,000Km later, no problems.

IIRC, the vent tube has no relationship to the fluid inside the diff. The white (cream) ones have a metal adapter inside them that keeps it always pointing down, the black ones had a plastic one that could stop rotating and stop in the inverted position causing diff lube to be forced out the vent breather. If your black one does not have this problem, no sense replacing things that work! Some of the older trucks need to have the breather line reduced to fit the new vent connector. couple inches of vacuum line and a plastic reducer work great!
