Service Brake Message?

Recommended Posts

The message center display started to flash (scroll) a message to have brakes serviced. My '05 CCSB only has 36,000 kms on it and it had a dealer recommended brake service (inspection) at 30,000 kms. Since this vehicle is mainly driven on highways, I find the message to be premature. Has anyone had a similar experience?

The same message came out on my truck too, but I need to service it cause my truck needed brake pads and new rotors. I suggest you check out the whole braking system to see if it needs new brakes. Also, I don't know if it is premature becuase my truck at 20,000 miles needed new brakes. What did the dealer tell you when you took it for the brake service?

I haven't looked in a book in a while, but it there a chance that this is a timed message generated by the trucks computer. Kind of like the Change oil light?

Just a thought

I don't think so, cause when the message came out in my Silverado it need me to service the brakes and my truck did need brakes when the message came out. My dad has a Suburban with over 100,000 miles and that message has never come out. So, I don't think the service brakes message is like the change oil one. I think when this message comes out it means to check your brakes and see if you need to change the brakes or if something is wrong with the braking system. I don't think this message comes out every thousands of miles like the change oil message.

If I were to guess (which I am) I would guess it is reading the brake fluid reservoir being low. As the pads and rotors wear, they use more of the fluid in the res and the level lowers. Either way it means you probably have brake service coming up. I would agree that it is way premature at 36,000km to expect brake work. Mine last about 50K miles but I'm pretty hard on the brakes and I have very aggressive frictions.

Took the truck in and here are their findings:

1. The squeaking leaf spring was indeed a TSB issue and was addressed using GM lube #10953501

2. The message center showing the intermittent service brake condition was not found on their scanning; will need to monitor further

nice, quiet ride once again!

I just love those "could not duplicate" visits to the dealer :fume:
