Does anyone have the programming directions for a 1998 full size pickup?

 

I bought a second key fob, but the manual says go to the dealer.

These are the instructions for 99-06 vehicles. I'm not sure if it will work for your 98, but might be worth a try.

 

REMOTE TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING

 

Up to 4 remotes may be programmed.

 

All remotes should be programmed at the same time as existing codes will be erased.

 

1. Close doors.

2. Insert key, do not turn.

3. Press and hold door lock switch in the unlock position ( on the door).

4. Switch ignition on, off, on, off (or on, lock, on, lock) Note on does not mean Start.

5. Release door lock switch.

6. Doors should lock and unlock one time to confirm programming mode.

7. Simultaneously press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons of the first remote transmitter for 15 seconds.

8. Doors should lock and unlock to confirm programming of the first remote transmitter.

9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for all remaining transmitters.

10. Switch ignition ON to exit programming mode.

How did you end up programming the remote??? I don't even have one anymore. I need to get 2. How much are they from the dealer?

Above procedure will NOT work for his 1998 truck.

 

For his truck, all he has to do is jumper pins 4 and 8 of the data link connector.

I bought a used remote off eBay for $22.45 (total including shipping).

Jump pins 4 and 8, the doors will lock and unlock, now press and hold both lock and unlock buttons on the remote, after a few seconds the doors will lock. Remove the jumper, you are done.

When you go to the dealership they always want an arm and a leg to do that kind of work. There was a big thing on the news in Maryland about programming remotes. One of the cars my parents own has the instructions right in the owners book.
