Acceleration Downshift Problem

2001 4x4 Silverado, 5.3L, Ext cab, Z71, LT, towing package, 90,000.

This problem has been present since I bought the truck with 59,000 miles on it, but i didn't notice it for the first couple of weeks.

When I accelerate hard to pass and the transmission downshifts from 3 to 2, there is a long pause before it drops down to 2nd, maybe a second. During this pause the engine will rev very high as long as I'm really into the gas till the tranny actually goes into second. This isn't a slipping issue. It actually does this at lower speeds as well it's just not as noticeable. It does it whether tow/haul mode is off or on. All other shifts seem to be normal.

I changed the fluid and the filter shortly after buying the truck. My buddy's '02 does not do this. What could be the problem?

Sounds like regular old Torque Management to me. Mine does the same thing.

I don't think so. The problem is that the engine races (revs high) with this delayed downshift. When the tranny finally engages second, it does so hard (no slipping). I thought torque management would make the engine rev less therefore reducing torque, right?
