2007 Drop Question

I plan on doin this as soon as I get time. My 07 sits way too high out back.

Does anyone know if the trucks without the z85/71 suspensions have blocks? I'd like to use shorter u-bolts to do this (my sawall broke and I don't feel like cutting the factory ones down).

I am thinking about removing the blocks and using shorter U-bolts on my 2007 Sierra Denali. Does anyone know if there are any issues with doing it?

My new body style '07 Silverado crew cab (Z85/2 wd) has them. They're only about 1" thick.

You might have to trim the axle snubbers and you might have to adjust the headlights.

My 07 looked like a cat in heat... with the butt all hiked up in the air.

I did the 2 inch shackles and the rear is still taller... The shackles actually improved my ride. (less stiff) It was an unexpected bonus. I guess lowering the rear transfers some weight to the rear springs.

Going for the block removal next. I'll post something if it creates any new issues.

I ordered the 2" drop shackles for my NBS Sierra Denali Crew Cab. Has anyone done this yet? If so, did you have to add any shims to correct the pinion angle?

As of this morning, I've done two of them (2" shackles) and added shims to neither one. But they were both regular cabs.

I assume that both were regular cab trucks with standard box. In that case my wheel base is 24.5 inchs longer (119 vs 143.5). That makes for big difference in points of the spring and the driveshaft.

Am I over thinking this? After looking at the amount of work, on my back with no impact wrench, I am beginning to wonder if I will do it at this time. icon7.gif

I think you are overthinking it...I've done ex-cabs in the past without doing anything but the shackles...Nary a problem.

You ARE overthinking it big time... 2 inch drop in the rear of a full size truck "ain't rocket science". I've done a bunch of them over the years and never had a single issue. This includes my 07 NBS.

GO FOR IT!

The result is well worth it...

Has anyone removed the rear block in the springs to level the NBS silverado out

I have. I did both 2 inch shackles and removed the blocks and it leveled my truck. Unfortunately it is a SWB so the drive angle was wrong and caused a vibration. I put in 2* shims and the vibration is gone but the rear raised a tad with the shims. I'm assuming the shorter wheelbase of my truck made the angle more critical.

I just got mine in today from Belltech 2" lowering in the rear only $55 and I have done allot of research on this and it is rare that you need shims. But I will tell you after this weekend ; )

the DJM rear lowering kit (3" drop) consists of 2" shackles .. and new U bolts and plates (removing the blocks) to get the 3" drop ... it's what i will eventually be doing to mine ...

ok any way here is a pick of belltech 2 inch front spindles and rear shackles/removed block/shock relocation. Roughly a 2/3.25 drop and no vibration issue. Did have to re-align front end.

    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
    • Thanks for posting, I'm sure it will help someone
    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
