Tailgate Strap Recall And Problems

I know that there was a recall for the tailgate straps a while back and was wondering if my truck is covered in the recall. It is a 2001 Silverado HD. Also the latch on the tailgate was changed by a previous owner to one that locks and now it doesn't want to open. It looks as if the pin that the tail gate "grabs" onto on the passenger side is bent and now the tailgate doesn't want to fully release it. I was wondering if there was something I could do myself to release it or if I would have to take it to a shop and have them do it.

I believe the tailgate cables on your truck should be covered on the recall...

Makes a lot more sense to buy some straps. They are stronger, by far.

 

I bought mine off of e-bay and they are pretty nice. for the best, buy VR Straps off of one of the vendors on www.dieselplace.com

I have a 2002 1500 HD and the tailgate straps were covered by the recall.
