To Shift Or Not To Shift

Do any of you manually downshift your trucks when rolling down hills on the highways? I kinda like watching my economy go to almost 60+ mpg when in 3rd coasting down a long mountain pass. I have to imagine it will pull the average mileage numbers up some, on top of driving conservatively and the rest of the gas saving tips...

Just wondering how many others do this in addition to the easy stuff. Maybe this is a throwback from too many years driving sticks!!!

Have you seen your mpg's when you leave the transmission in "D" It does the same thing. I've seen mine go above 80... Wish it would stay there. Yeah, Right.

I am a down-shifter myself, but like you I'm sure that comes from driving stick, and some big rig trucking. I have never really done the down shifting for gas milage, but more for the added breaking power! On the big hills the added breaking force of the engine is nice.

I downshift when going down a long hill plus I get the added crackle from the Corsa exhaust.
