Is Nbs Water Temp Guage Accurate?

The water temp guage on my NBS Silverado reminds me of the guage in my old 2000 Z28-it goes up to 210 degrees and just stays there. Is it accurate or do I need to install an aftermarket guage to see what the "real" temp is? I put a full sweep Autometer on my Z28 and I was pleased with it. Does anyone make a pillar pod yet for the NBS ?

Thats what mine does. Isn't that what it is supposed to do. On my '55 I can see the temperature fluctuate as cold/hot water circulates over the thermostat bulb unitl all the coolant reaches the same temperature. I imagin with these newer engines the thermostat senor is located in a more stable location, to cut down on fluctuation.

The temperature sensor is probably in the cylinder head which might account for the more stable and higher temperature than you might be used to. I see the same thing on our '02 Trailblazer I6 and our former '96 S10 V6. My '04 Corvette has both the gauge and a DIC digital readout which fluctuates more with conditions.

As with the GMT800 trucks the GMT900 uses the PCM coolant sensor for the guages and if the temp gets over 250F the engine will go into reduced power mode to protect the engine and still allow low speed travel to get home or to service. (Info is in the owners manual) The guage is only an indicator. Don't be concerned unless temp gets above 237F. In reduced power the PCM will alternate power to different cylinders to protect it self.
