Need New Engine For 96 Jimmy

So my 1996 jimmy has been sitting for about 3 weeks now awaiting a new engine. I dont have the ability or time to attempt it by myself at the time. I have a buddy that will do it for about 900. Iv been debating a junker engine for around 1500$ and remanufactored longblock for 2200$. Curriosity has been getting the best of me and im wondering about a bigger better engine or even just a new crate 4.3. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanx Adam

we'll no help there, has anyone reprogramed a jimmy or blazer and is it worth it and what programer did you use.

when I was lookin into getting a new 4.3 for my s-10 it was only 1300 for the shortblock just carry the old stuff over. If its a straight swap your buddy isnt being much of a buddy at all...i had a guy my unlce new ase i think well certified that would do it for $500 by himself and $300 if id help. I got rid of my s-10 and got a silverado but do regret not dropping a 5.3 or 6.0 in that s-10 cuz it would have only been a couple grand

IMO I still say your buddy is taking advantage of you. Unless he is doing this during business hours or something. If it were me I'd do it dirt cheap. I'm talking a few cases of beer (our local currency  ).

Prices vary wildly by location. I think $900 isn't too bad of a price considering I just pulled my engine myself, completely disassembled it, then had the machine shop bore it .020" over. They purchased the bearings, pistons, rings, etc, did a valve job and rebuilt my heads as well. The total bill there was $637, then I spent probably another $150 on hoses, fluids, etc. to assemble the motor and get it back on the road.

:) I agree, I had a 89 ext cab w/ a LT4 in it, and was building a 88 4x4 w/ a ported LT1 that I was converting over to awd.
