Tranny Slipped Yesterday...

After sitting at a light yesterday, I eased on the gas once the light turned green & went nowhere! My d**n tranny was slipping...I got off the gas & kind of feathered it a little & it kicked back in & went.

I think this is the 2nd or 3rd time it has done it in about 2 years. Normally, I have no trouble at all.

Is this a sign my tranny is on its way out? What is the problem?

Tranny fluid changed about 30000 miles ago (before anyone asks)and still looks & smells ok.

GM does have a TSB for transmission slip in the GMT800's due to a computer glitch. My 05 Silverado would slip like CRAZY every few months and the TSB fixed it. May be worth investigating if your fluid is okay and the transmission is slipping that rarely.

If under warranty they will. I just saw that you have a 2002 so it would probably be out of your own pocket.

Make sure it's not the typical "starts off in second after stop at light" problem. Mine does a handful of times a year and it happened on my original trans and my built trans. It feels like it may be slipping but if you give it enough gas it will accelerate. After having it happen a bunch of times, I can now tell immediately when it happens and i just lift off the gas and it downshifts to first.

Also, how many miles total on your trans?

That very well may be the problem...it doesn't really feel like a slip out of gear, I don't think the RPM's rev high enough for it to be out of gear.

If it is the starting in 2nd problem...what is the problem?what is the cure?

Tranny is original...has roughly 89000 miles on it.

Never solved it on mine. Happened on my stock trans and on my built trans. All the solenoids were replaced when it was rebuild so I don't think it is a sticking solenoid. I think it is a software glitch.

As I mentioned, I am really good knowing when it happens and I just let up on the gas and it goes back to first. WHen it first started happening, if I just kept the pedal pressure on, it would slam down into first with a thud.
